That's one more than I have ; ) If I'm able to make it to the POE in SF next year, I'll send you a pm about it.

    Penang show exhibits

Amazing! Thanks for sharing the pics. So many Phal specimens. Are these from Penang growers?

    Cymbidium ensifolium '市長紅'/'Shi Zhang Hong'

Thanks for your kind words. Other pictures I've seen of this cultivar has a redder color, but with photos, that could be tweaked. I also wished the lips didn't curl unevenly, but that's ok. I really enjoy the pale lime green colors of the new growths mixed with the darker green of older leaves...

    Cymbidium ensifolium '市長紅'/'Shi Zhang Hong'

So.. I picked this up recently at Redland and what I thought were growths were not, go figure. Here we are today.

Phalaenopsis violacea fma. semi-alba from Orchidview

It never gets to 60F in my conditions because I grow these in my living room, so I have it at a pretty constant 70-75F year round. I do have to supplement the grow area with a T5 HO fixture (3000K and 6400K) for 13 hours a day. I have a humidistat too, to keep the area at ~48% RH, which is on...

    Phal. fuscata 'f. flava' ?

Nice color. The dorsal sepal is also a bit taller than what I've usually seen.

Phalaenopsis violacea fma. semi-alba from Orchidview

Thanks, all. I'm sure it will be great.

Phalaenopsis violacea fma. semi-alba from Orchidview

Finally flowered a violacea! Again with the other species that I'm growing, it's probably only getting around 500 fc, and does not like like it when the light is higher than that. It also took over a year to acclimate to my home conditions. Phalaenopsis violacea fma. semi-alba NO857 'Morning...

    Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi fma chattaladae

    Oh, and the Tolkien reference!

    Phalaenopsis cornu-cervi fma chattaladae

Great thread! I really enjoyed reading about the breeding that has gone behind these species which is not always clear or available for most hobbyists. One reason, I recently found out, why talking to the breeders and growers at orchid events like Redland is quite invaluable. Also nice to have...

    Renantanda Sunrise

Love the color and presentation. The spur disappeared!

    Phalaenopsis floresensis

Nice! I like the pale yellows on floresensis but haven't seen one in person.

K-Lite has been around a few years now... updates?

I have somewhat similar experiences with Bjorn and I think K-lite definitely improved the hobbyist orchid nutrition experience a great deal. Hopefully all these comments will help when K-lite 2.0 is released : D I grow mostly phals in 100% NZ sphagnum, with the exception of cochlearis and...

    Phalaenopsis appendiculata

Thanks all. Marco, I'll keep you posted. The fruit on this species supposedly sets faster than other phal species so it shouldn't be too long. I've not heard/read of appendiculata being fragrant. This one doesn't have a scent. My modesta smells more like a vanilla cake, but I can see where...

    Dyakia hendersoniana

Amazing photos! What a cool species. How would you describe the scent?
  18. T

    Phalaenopsis appendiculata

I didn't manipulate the photo and I think it's quite accurate to what I see, but yea, this plant has rather saturated petals and lip. That's why I selfed it!

    Phalaenopsis appendiculata

Thanks all : ) Yes, pictures are way bigger than the actual bloom. It's probably the second to smallest Phal after zhejiangensis.
