    Angraecum sesquipedale

I know. Sesquipedale gets to be Huge! Magdalenae stays compact, maybe 8-12 inches tall. I had one plant of Lemforde White Beauty years ago and it got to maybe 15” tall, nice dark green leaves. Vegetatively it takes after magdalenae.

    Angraecum sesquipedale

I think that sesquipedale x magdalenae is Ang. Lemforde White Beauty. Grows like magdalenae in much lower light.

    Angraecum sesquipedale

Angraecums like sesquipedale do not like to be disturbed. I have had them and I just move them up in pot size trying very hard not to disturb the roots at all. If you do, they often sulk by growing slowly. I actually like A. enurneum better than sesquipedale. They like lots of water, warmth...

    Paph helenae x fairreanum

I am growing plain helenae and a few hybrids. They are under lights at 1,600 foot candles. I have 5 clones of the species and one I bought in early July is in bud. They seem to be thriving. I am growing in a fine sized or seedling mix. 50% orchiata, 25% charcoal and 25% perlite. I am...

What has happened to the petals on my roth

I agree, most likely cause is stress early on. Probably a lack of enough water. Perhaps a little more fertilizer, but that is less likely. Chances are it is NOT insects or disease. Probably not temperature related either. Check out the size of the fan. Are the leaves smaller, leaf spread...

    Paph Fred's Triumph 'Graham's Select' AM/AOS.

The first thing I noticed was very good form! Proportionally things come together. Nothing seems a bit small or a bit large. Color is great! The rose in the dorsal, the petals and pouch is uniform. It is a very nice flower! Congratulations on your award! Well deserved. 👌

    Cattleya CG Roebling

I agree with monocotman, an absolutely beautiful classic blue! One of my few, all time favorites.

    Wanted Paphiopedilum papilio loaticus

Are you that naive to think that E-bay will defend you for illegal plant importation!!!??? Get serious. BOTH the seller and buyer get in trouble. WHY, why, why are you risking trouble over an orchid, a plant, when all you need to do is to wait patiently????

    Wanted Paphiopedilum papilio loaticus

There is one on e-bay right now with an opening bid of $199. There is a $300 ‘buy it now option’.

    Wanted Paphiopedilum papilio loaticus

I agree, illegal. Was recently discovered in either 2017 or 2018. You just have to give it time. Probably not okay to buy yet. And if you try, you might be asking for trouble. If you did buy one or try to buy one, you are leaving an internet trail.

Advice for Resurrecting an Orchid Society Library From Cold storage

I belong to two societies here in Michigan and within the last 2 years, they have sold off their orchid libraries. Why? They take up storage space. Sometimes loads of space. Some societies have a Librairian who volunteers to bring them back and forth to a meeting. That has become a pain in the...

    helenae

Very, very nice! I like the overall form quite a bit. Perhaps the synsepal is a bit too large but I would need to look at other recent awards in order to compare. As it is though, I think it caresses the pouch and is attractive. The color is quite pleasing and I like it a lot! Congratulations...

Well you certainly have found a good place. At least we think so! And I really think that you will love the place too!! Welcome, welcome and welcome. I grow pretty much everything that you do except the majority of my orchids spend summer outside. I started out loving Cattleyas and I still do...

    Pleurothallis sp.

I wrote this down in my notes Tony. Next Saturday I have judging and we have a judge there who might very well know exactly what this is. I think that I have seen it before. Lynn O'Shaunessy is a Pleurothallis grower of high regard so if no one else can ID it before then I will see if she knows...

    dark henryanum

The pouch, dorsal sepal and staminode do not line up. Pouch is not really full and round. Petals could be wider and flatter. Let’s hope that with good color the form can improve.

    Repotting... (But not really)

Repotting a Paphiopedilum is one thing, disturbing a Paphiopedilum is another! I can not equate the two in my mind. In my experience, impatience is not normally a good idea. Something, either one factor or several are off in your culture. By looking for change, wondering why things are not...

Welcome, welcome, welcome!!! Maybe we can get you seriously involved with the forums and lurk no more. But regardless, so glad you decided to post. 😁 I grow under lights myself and my collection is compact Cattleyas, compact Paphiopedilums and a few other things. I grow both species and hybrids...
