    Paph Season 2024

You would have been in good company, two of the four judges scored 'Gabby' at 90 and one had 'Powderpuff' at 93 before coming down into range lol

Red Cattleya, my first AOS award

Congrats, that was a beautiful plant. Did you have the yellow brachy/parvi cross too?

    Paph Season 2024

I have no doubt they'll both get there.

I'm saving that for adductum, I only have one to trade 😂

    Paph Season 2024

I have a lot of catching up to do on picture taking, but for the moment here are the results of today's judging. I took Wössner Black Wings 'Gabby' in hoping for an upgrade to FCC from the prior 84 point AM. Two judges scored her at 90, but the other two were lower and ended in an upgrade to...

Taking the plunge with a top rothschildianum

https://www.slippertalk.com/threads/paphiopedilum-culture-and-propagation.49134/ I primarily grow Paphs but I use the same formula for the rest of my plants with excellent results.

Polystyrene strips as a potting medium

I wonder if packing peanuts would work in the same way without the mess of shredding sheet styro?

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum with true pedigree, second flowering

I have been impressed with every flask I buy from Dave.

Paph rothschildianum x sib ('Knight Sunshine' SM/JOGA x 'Tarantula' GM/JGP)

I have two plants labeled as this cross from Sam. Not yet bloomed, but I'm not optimistic.

    Paph Season 2024

Carter & Holmes and the Carolinas Judging Center hosted an outreach judging event yesterday and we came home with three AMs to Hung Sheng Cape 'Bitis Botanical', Sunlight Anita 'Bitis Botanical', and Wössner Black Wings 'Mr Boops'. We have a running theme of memorializing special pet snakes from...

    CO2

I asked Xavier about CO2 a while back and he told me there was no benefit in any of his trials.

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum x sib (Miles x Giant Wings GM/WOC

No, but it is the second of three siblings to bloom deformed, and the third double spiked with one spike just being a sheath on a stick. We'll see how the flowers turn out on that one but it's odd that these sibling plants are having so many issues when I normally have no trouble blooming roths...

    Old Gen Roths Photos

I had one of those, it was unfortunate 😂

    Zygopetalum back bulbs

Since you have good leads I'd just try a few singles and clumps to see which works better, I suspect clumps will be best since they have more stored energy available.

    Zygopetalum back bulbs

I haven't tried single backbulbs but I have had backbulbs still attached sprout new growth so there are definitely eyes present. Is there a particular reason you want to grow them from single bulbs rather than make your lead divisions and keep the backbulbs as a group?

    Are these leaves too yellow?

Dave at Paph Paradise would be the man to talk to. I don't know if he exports directly or if you would need a broker of some sort but you'll get the best Paphs in the US from him.

    Paph Season 2024

Another Hilo select Wössner Black Wings is opening now, it didn't crash as hard as its sibling and has a pretty decent bloom this year, I look forward to seeing it continue to improve. The "Hsinying Anita" is open now and has shown itself to be a nondescript sanderianum hybrid. The closest...

    Are these leaves too yellow?

My flowers from New Horizon x Raptor were garbage, yours and one other I saw here I think last year are the only decent flowers I've seen shared. I don't have the depth of experience with parent cultivars that Xavier has but what I've seen of New Horizon x Raptor has not struck me as the progeny...
