Orchid Art Lottery to Aid Wildlife

I want to extend a big thank you to the folks that participated. Today I handed over an $800 check and got to see the birds in Mary Ellen's care for the first time in quite a while. We were greeted at the door by Stella, the great white egret. She's not a rescue, but knows that they get fed...

plant import permits freak me out

At one point of my career, I led the global logistics effort for a $500-million chemical company - a small division of Total Energies. One of our sister companies intentionally used incorrect HTS (harmonized tariff system) codes on some raw materials imports to avoid high duties, “to remain...

    Aircone pots

FWIW, Air Cone pots are apparently not all THAT UV resistant. I was outside plucking leaves out of the plants and doing a general cleanup before bringing them in for the winter and had a couple crack on me. I suspect the thickness is the greatest boon to durability.

Orchid Art Lottery to Aid Wildlife

Response to this offer was quite good at first, but has quieted down significantly since, so rather than waiting longer, I plan on ending this offer tonight, will notifiy the winner(s) and ship the prints out tomorrow. For those of you who purchased chances, THANK YOU for your generosity! If...

Sorry to hear about Rona. When I first joined SEPOS, it was just before a show at the KOP Mall, so I went along to try to help. "Drill Sergeant" Rona had me hopping all night!

Orchid Art Lottery to Aid Wildlife

Now is the time to buy a chance - or better yet, several! - on some limited edition orchid prints. These framed and matted Vietnamese orchids prints are the last of a very limited edition published back in 1997 by Vietnamese painter B.X.Dáng. They measure 15″ x 18″ and are ready to hang. I...

    your oldest orchids

I was given my first orchid in 1971. Killed it, of course, then got focused on learning how to grow them, buying a Paph Almum (barbatum x lawrenceanum). (I never knew the name, so just looked it up.) Over the next ~20 years, I added more plants, buying/collecting them as I traveled...

    Need Feedback

I have decided to go the “individual” route, but it will be as a lottery, not an auction. I believe that more folks would be willing to take a chance for a nominal cost that there will be folks willing to cough up a large sum. “Chances” are purchased up-front; auctions require that funds be...

Bill, that was pretty much my thinking, as well. It's not going to be an auction, but more like a lottery. My goal is to raise money for the wildlife rescue operation, as well, and I'm betting more people would spend $10 or $20 for a chance than can bid it up to a few hundred dollars or more.

I have two matted and framed, limited edition Vietnamese orchid (Paph. delenatii and Cym. lowianum) prints that I will "lottery off" to raise funds for a local wildlife rescue organization. (Please disregard the gray background and irregular orientation - these were a bear to photograph with an...

    My tap water in units

Yes, that's pretty good water. I'd simplify life and just use a fertilizer that contains calcium and magnesium, and do no further adjustments.

    Air-cone pot topic drift

I didn't recall him selling a mix, but what I remember most was his "interesting" attempts the application of pollinia from two, different plants when making "tri-species" hybrids. I suppose he hadn't studied pollination or genetics very well.

    Aircone pots

After Ray Rand passed, Jan and Ulla Jurrisen (Kelley’s Korner Orchid Supplies) bought the inventory and molds. When they sold KK, they kept them and continued as wholesale distributors. If I’m not mistaken, one of them has now passed on.

    Wanted Wanted Phrags.

Have you considered Lehua Orchids? I won’t say Graham has the most sophisticated phrag crosses for sale, but I’ve gotten tons of nice ones over the years, and it’s hard to beat his prices.

    Anticipation

I'm with Kman on the heavy watering. For a plant to gain about a pound of mass, it needs to collect and process about 5g of fertilizer and 25 gallons of water. Add the transpirational losses, and that water demand can be as high as 500 gallons.
