Paphiopedilum rothschildianum ‘New Horizon’ x ‘Raptor’

Funny.... I did that cross last year, as I think it can give some great results.

    Paph sanderianum 'Jungle Magic'

That's a much more complicated story than that... The flasks were made by Norris Powell of 'sanderianum'. The Orchid Zone had bloomed and pictured Deep Pockets and Jacob's Ladder, though the cross did not take... So they bought back from Norris Powell flasks.... They started to be released...

    Paph sanderianum 'Jungle Magic'

Yes that was the infamous Deep Pockets x Jacob's Ladder cross sold by the Orchid Zone everywhere, turned out to be PEOY.

Paphiopedilum The Last Empress (just registered!)

Petal lenght on the hybrids is related as well to pot size and the root system heavily. Some nurseries to extend the petal lenght of sands and the hybrids put them in a saucer of water when the spikes appear. A more elegant approach is to kind of overpot them in much bigger pot, minimum 21cm...

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum x sib (Miles x Giant Wings GM/WOC

You are correct, most of the roth have only 4 wild collected plants in their parentage as of now... with Charles E, Borneo, Rex, Mt Millais. A fifth one, Nan Chou was as well in the Orchid Zone lineage. Sixth if you count the Mt Kinabalu. 'Commander' was used in the UK, and aside from Blackbird...

    Paph sanderianum 'Jungle Magic'

Many sanderianum had the white margin on the leaves in the 90's indeed. There are a few colonies that don't, but back then it was the standard. They were collected in the Mulu Park, but the access was much more difficult by foot than what it became around 1998, where other colonies became...

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum x sib (Miles x Giant Wings GM/WOC

Well, to buy a roth in bloom to have a very high quality one is not mandatory... If the sellers are honest, and use really the proper parents, there is little surprise. It is not a lottery as much as some want use to believe, at least for the species. I have yet to see a 'bad' rothschildianum...

    Paph canhii

Actually not at all, but few people realize.... If you buy from Hengduan Biotech, and get a copy of the CITES from China, the plants are illegal.... You need to buy the plants from the US Importer mentioned on the CITES, with a copy of the CITES from China. Simply because the US Importer became...

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum ‘New Horizon’ x ‘Raptor’

There are pygmy rothschildianum that do exist. That's mine here. The shape is already superb, with several flowers per spike. Just that it is a miniature roth in a 17cm pot.

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum x sib (Miles x Giant Wings GM/WOC

I dont think so so far. It was divided and sold not long after it was awarded.... as well because the clump started to collapse not long after. The divisions back then were already very expensive. There might be another one out there, but I would not bet on it. Mine bloomed 2 years ago, on the...

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum x sib (Miles x Giant Wings GM/WOC

Yes, and there are more. Commander, Dou Fong, the 'Macrura XXXX' series Macrura Nion, Macrura Hirako, etc... were all wild collected. Furayama were all wild collected, etc, etc... There are paintings of some amazing roths as well from the XIXth century, and I have seen over the years in Sabah at...

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum x sib (Miles x Giant Wings GM/WOC

They did, for even more than that. And they were divided as well into single growths many times. Shin-Yi with a fusarium took me over a decade to grow back to blooming size and as an healthy plant, though it is a sanderianum... Indeed that seems weird, but in the 2000s the Tonkin still had...

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum x sib (Miles x Giant Wings GM/WOC

Not only implying.... The stocks were sold over a couple of years, from the 90s until the 2000s. All kind of sizes of rothschildianum, including big clumps, and even seedling sized not yet bloomed from their original Charles E x Borneo, etc... Out of these, some were divided, some were more...

    Old Gen Roths Photos

Well don't look any further... In Charm and the others are usually 'expensive' when you buy 1 flask of this and 1 flask of that from them. So there were and are some discounters, from Taiwan, that come sometimes even in the US, that should remain nameless...., but very popular however offering...

Very good sanderianum indeed, what I would expect from the cross. I have a division of Shin-Yi. You need to be careful as well to get the flasks directly from the grower and insist on that. It is not uncommon, to say the least, that some traders will swap a bit the tags before exporting in...

Paphiopedilum rothschildianum ‘New Horizon’ x ‘Raptor’

One more, same source, same verdict. Nothing to do with New Horizon or Raptor... Looks like someone closed just on time before the disaster begins... Nothing against the plant or poster, just that when people buy something with a pedigree, it should be at least that...

In theory it should have... Did you get it directly from either In Charm or Shin-Yi?

    Paphiopedilum chamberlainianum var. latifolium

Well because they come from the same source and same flasks... who sell wholesale as well, like here: https://europlantas.pt/produto/paphiopedilum-fairrieanum/ Same plant, same breeding, the potting mix might be changed just before, but, of course, they are the same.... Sometimes they are...
