Phrag Lovely Lynne 4n x sib blooming thread

So to summarize you are providing 250ppm every watering, which is once a week. Does this change at all through the year? And do you ever flush the media with non fertilized water.

    maxima's in flower today

Yes, I believe it didn’t make the cut. No worries. I enjoy the growing and feel that I learn more about a species having multiple seedlings scattered about. The most important/ helpful part is that you were able to bloom it under lights.

    maxima's in flower today

Fantastic growing and blooming, I’m hoping for this luck in the coming years. After seeing @southernbelle blooming out the coerulea under lights I invested heavily in seedlings and one mature lowland alba form. I have to agree, concolor is going on the list. Rich, what media and potting have...

Heather, I’m all over the place. I’ve been targeting more balanced fertilizers. I’ve found MSU for pure water to be very aggressive, even diluting it into a gallon sprayer, it carries more TDS than other ferts I have in rotation. But I still use it in the summer. Others on the list include Jacks...

My water source is RO, I add a bit of fert every watering or else the RO strips the plants of nutrients and everything turns yellow. I also have been adding an application of epson salts at 100ppm, it’s about 1tsp per gallon. At least twice a month, sometimes more in the summer. The magnesium...

What was the chemistry change that made improvements in the blooming?

    You be the judge

I believe the hardest part is the time constraints of the modern family. Running around with a kid and all the activities needed to manage, it’s difficult to steal an entire Saturday away from the family when you have so little family time during the week. Additionally, judging shows mid week...

    You be the judge

Thanks, question on NS. NS horizontal is petal tip to petal tip. The vertical is from the bottom of the lip to the top of the dorsal sepal?

    You be the judge

Thanks for this post. I’m interested in learning more on how plants are scored at judging. Unfortunately, I have no free Saturdays to attend our local judging center meetings. I’ve downloaded and am in review of the judges handbook. But these posts are very helpful to get a sense on how one...

Cattleya jenmanii ‘Mem. Dan Brandt’ AM/AOS

I agree with this. I grow a few species under lights and by far the easiest to bloom are jenmanii, lueddemanniana, and schroederae. I know a lot depends on the plants themselves but these are the ones I’ve had multiple successes with seedlings.

Cattleya lueddemanniana rubra ‘Sarita’, a good blooming.

indoor growing is very difficult for me to drive. Even though I’m sheltered from too much variation in day length, my grow space shares a wall with the outside environment with two windows. The temp dip in the winter really throws off the bloom cycle. Currently I have jenmanii, schroederae, and...

Cattleya lueddemanniana rubra ‘Sarita’, a good blooming.

Winter seems to be the season for the darker form in my collection. It bloomed last Feb. for me and will be opening in a few days.

Well grown, luedde season is here. I need to start potting them up this year.

Cattleya trianae, a four year journey

This is a timely thread, during these winter months I invest a lot of time observing the plants and wrestling with these same questions as I try to map out the next steps for the upcoming spring repotting extravaganza :). I’ve found that with cattleyas I have seen the most success with growth...

Cattleya Arthos (Dinard 'Blue Heaven' x trianae (coerulea) '#6')

Gorgeous lip, love the depth in color. Curious to learn what cultural changes you implemented and if you were pleased with the results. Big changes take a long time to see the results.

During the pandemic there was a bubble market with high demand for house plants. With the supply chain issues, availability of tropical house plants (mainly aroids) went through the roof. Some hard to find plants like certain species of variegated monsteras as an example shot up to thousands of...
