    Habenaria medusa ‘Owen’

Do you ever have issues with mites on your Habenaria? I have 3 different plants and each summer without fail they get these patches that look like black rot on portions of the leaves.. a few treatments and they return to normal growth. Each summer I think I can get away without having to treat...

    Vanda Motes Hot Mama

(1943 V. Foxy Lady x V. merrilli var, rotori) First bloom seedling from Motes Orchids, November 2021. Unfortunately, I did something to cause the last 3 buds to blast. :/ I think I let it dry out too much or maybe it didn’t like the fert change. It’s a tricky time of the year with the cooling...

    Cattleya White Reception ‘NN’

    Habenaria medusa ‘Owen’

Picked up in April 2023 with only the tiniest green nub peeking out of the soil. It grew into a monster and I’m looking forward to it going dormant so I can harvest the corms. They look like hot dog potatoes about the size of your hand. Very excited to see this one bloom, it has been on the list...

    Cattleya White Reception ‘NN’

Cattleya Hawaiian Wedding Song × Cattleya Douglas Johnston I picked this up off of Ebay in September of 2021. First bloom for me, I thought it was fragrant but I’m not detecting anything this evening, I’ll try again in the daytime. The buds were fast to open and I missed my opportunity to give...

    Anguloa clowesii

Purchased from Ecuagenera in June of 2022. This was a big experiment for me, after seeing another member in a local society bring in a blooming plant a few years back it went on the list. I just had to have a tulip orchid. Was relatively easy to grow in my conditions, I kept it on the floor to...

Blc Burdekin Bells ‘Rachel’x Cattleya Hawaiian Devotion 'Fred Shull’

The third seedling to bloom. Unfortunately, I didn’t wait for the flower to mature and I brought it into our society’s meeting last evening.. :/ it got a little banged up and is looking very deflated today. But, I am still documenting each seedling in this thread until I bloom them all out...

Help ID this discoloration of the cattleya leaves

Yes all is well now. Our power issues were resolved shortly after the incident with no further interruption of the lights and fans. I aggressively cut off all the leaves showing symptoms and treated everything showing symptoms with clearys 3336 and Phyton 27. I’ve had no reoccurring issues...

    Cattleya intermedia var. orlata

    Dorm room set up?

Honestly, might be more trouble than it’s worth. You should really plan to focus on the school experience, getting on a schedule and the chaotic dorm life. The freedom of time you have in school opens the door to many opportunities, don’t limit yourself to be tied down in the dorm in any way...

    Piping Rock new owner

The Scent of Scandal: Greed, Betrayal, and the World's Most Beautiful Orchid. Is the book I would recommend reading for those new to this topic. The focus is on kovachii, but the book also reviews the other paph and Phrag incident surrounding Norris. It was amazing to me how much ‘smaller’...

Help ID this discoloration of the cattleya leaves

Thanks all for taking a look. Your input is helpful 🙏 . I was just chatting with Deborah about how upset I’ve been with family and friends facing health issues that it really distracted my husbandry this past spring. There was a great article in the July 2023 issue of AOS Pg 494, Sue Bottom...

Help ID this discoloration of the cattleya leaves

I think you are right. I’ve not come across anything else that moves this fast and the conditions were right for this to take hold even if it was just one day with no light or airflow. On top of this my sitter watered when the lights came back on for a few hours before turning off again so it...

Help ID this discoloration of the cattleya leaves

Hi all. Was hoping some of the advanced growers can chime in. I returned from vacation (5 days) to find a few cattleya leaves of different plants showing large brown/ purple patches in the leaves, random solid patterns covering mid section of the leaf to the full leaf, but not near the base...

    Old orchid books

I’m currently on vacation in Maine visiting my in-laws. My mother in laws friend was raised in Brazil and her parents grew orchids. She gave me these two books as they were not being used. The first/larger one is in Portuguese (1959) and a bit rough condition, the second is in English and...

Cattleya dowiana var rosita ‘Red Emerald’

I Love the intense colors. I wish I could grow these. I’ve killed two rositas and don’t have the heart to try again until I figure out how to grow this species in my conditions. I have one dowiana seedling still alive.

RIc. Memoria LaVerne O. Meier 'Harford' HCC

This is what I was thinking. Dowiana is 24% would be neat to try and cross this with some of the new white cattleyas seedlings I have starting to mature.. maybe improve the form.

Inherited to grow on from the little greenhouse last week in bud. I wanted to share and record this plant in bloom before I move ahead with repotting. Might be a few years before I see it again. Registered in 2002. The parents are Rhyncholaeliocattleya Sunset Gorge × Cattleya Tango. This is a...
