    Paph. callosum in bud

I love coloratums and I really love "flame" vinis- but when a batch of callosums starts coming into bud (I have spikes coming on 7 out of 12 plants so far- all initiated under my care), it is awful nice to see a few looking like this (3 of the 7 so far are this dark)...

    Roth Mont Millais sib cross

FWIW - this is generally how my Raptor crosses bloomed out, and after a spring/summer spent in a friend's large greenhouse. Nice color, good shape - but blooming on very short stems and very young plants.

What is the best roth cross?

Thank you @emydura - like Roth, I was not able to find photos of any of the parents, so I was wondering a bit what to expect. I like what you have shown me! Here's hoping for good results.

    Norito Hasegawa passed away

Thank you for posting this. We lost touch many years ago when he retired, but I encountered him many times in my early orchid growing days and remember him with the greatest fondness. Norito was an incredible hybridizer, one of the truly great growers and also the embodiment of a great AOS...

What is your favorite orchid? Lets have some fun

Favorite - Laelia purpurata. One of the best plants I ever flowered in high school was a jungle collected purpurata that was snow white with a rich velvety deep purple lip. Even today I think it would have been an AM contender at the very least. When I went off to college, I gave away my best 12...

What is the best roth cross?

Question for all as I have not seen photos of any of the parents, I just got a number of robust seedlings of the following two crosses. They were not cheap, but that actually caught my interest since with roth it is usually a good sign of high expectations, 'Wide Spread' x 'King Kong' 'King...

Paph. rothschildianum 'Black Eagle' x 'Knight Challenge' SM/JOGA - #2 - big spread

This looks promising. Will this also work on T8 flourescent bulbs? I have not had any luck getting a light meter to work with them either.

Paph. rothschildianum 'Black Eagle' x 'Knight Challenge' SM/JOGA - #2 - big spread

Those are some happy plants! I am glad to see photos of your setup because I have been struggling a bit with my recent switch to T8 Daylight bulbs. At first, as with the T12s I used before, I had 4 bulbs per shelf and Paphs 6-8 inches away. It did not have much of a visible impact, but then last...

Paph. rothschildianum 'Black Eagle' x 'Knight Challenge' SM/JOGA - #2 - big spread

I had not considered that- my focus had been on the wonderful stance of the petals, but now that you mention it- yes there is very good dorsal and synsepal symmetry here and that does contribute to the immediate positive feeling I have just looking at the bloom. From a judging perspective, I...

Paph. rothschildianum 'Black Eagle' x 'Knight Challenge' SM/JOGA - #2 - big spread

Another of these has bloomed - rothschildianum 'Black Eagle' x 'Knight Challenge' SM/JOGA Again not the biggest dorsal at 4.4 cm, but the color is good and those petals! First bloom plant and they are 27cm wide and still growing- though I think about done. The flower has been open 3 days. The...

Thanks everyone- the parcel is sold, and I even made a second one. Appreciate all the kind words- and please rest assured that in future the offerings will allow for purchases of single plants and such. This was just a one-time move to clear some extra space for additional incoming stock...

Good afternoon all, This offer is for the original plant of Meir Moses' Paph. Lady Isobel 'Orchid Konnection Too' AM/AOS. This was a rescue from the greenhouse after his passing, and I purchased it in rough condition. After several months of TLC the single growth plant is looking much better...

Yes- it was discussed in another thread a while back. Everything is wrapping up now.

    Paph. Prince Edward of York

Thank you all for your kind words. @southernbelle I have to be careful about claiming too much credit for this one. While it is true I have been growing out sanderianum and roth both from seedlings under lights with good results, this and a number of other blooming plants I will post in the...

Slc. Jillian Lee -best one yet

Thank you- I like that name too. I was going to call it clone 'Tangerine Dream', taking it away from the one I had already named that, but "Sunburst" sounds better given the intensity.

Slc. Jillian Lee -best one yet

I posted a group shot of the first 6 to flower a few weeks ago- and then this weekend a real stunner opened. Not the largest flower- but for me as a breeder, the color makes this the best of the bunch. It positively glows- and this was the best picture I could get (which still does not quite...

    Paph. Prince Edward of York

Making room on the balcony to do this is a bit of a pain- but I am glad you asked since I am now seeing the color shows much better (meaning more accurately). I need to take all my shots outdoors going forward! Here is a shot of the spike and also of the third flower which is not fully open yet...
