    Opinions on Nutricote?

Thanks @abax will try Sam but sometimes he answers my questions and other times he ignores them. I think I might of annoyed him asking too many culture questions. 😆 I know he's retiring soon too so I'm sure he's been busy.

Did anyone know a grower named Dan Dickey?

Do you remember if he gave any culture tips on repotting? Reading that he would spend hours to repot a few plants sounds very interesting. I also found that he used to speak to societies on the subject.

    Opinions on Nutricote?

No worries at all. Was curious as his most recent crop I received have the been the largest paphs I've ever gotten in 2in pots from any nursery. They are doing really well.

    Opinions on Nutricote?

Also @Ray do you know what Sam Tsui is using for his slow release? All recent plants I have gotten from him have had these granules in the pots.

    Opinions on Nutricote?

Does Ernesto maybe test out a few lower valued plants with just slow release, then another set with both slow release and fluid, and finally the rest of the collection can be your usual treatment. Also since you have an aquarium you might want to use the fish deposit water to help fertilize...

Did anyone know a grower named Dan Dickey?

Former president of Orchid Society of Southern California he was apparently an expert in repotting and culture in general. Unfortunately he passed on recently. I was wondering if anyone ever attended any of his past seminars.

The 'water twice' approach to watering

Terry I hear had the best looking paphs out of any nursery, period, hard stop. With that being said did he tell you if he waters with fert first and then flush, or the other way around?

    Another water quality thread

This Terry Root is a fascinating, mysterious figure, a legend in the orchid world. Man I wish I knew his thoughts on orchid culture.

The 'water twice' approach to watering

Hey if it works that's all that matters.

    Another water quality thread

What a fascinating question. I don't know if I have a neighbor who has fish but you think the waste water could benefit the plants? I have no clue if the ppm would be too high.

The 'water twice' approach to watering

Sure Ray but for indoor growing it's another story. Nice set-up you had there though.

The 'water twice' approach to watering

Yes I did know that you had experience here in this arena with large sample sizes which is cool. Watering nearly every day makes total sense if one were to imitate nature around those equatorial regions. Practically speaking though this would be difficult for the hobbyist and or expensive...

This makes me feel a bit better about my water thank you. 😬 That's cool that you work in a nursery, I'm sure that feels rewarding.

I agree 100%. Moral dilemma and cost are barriers. Thanks for the offer on the RO system from others man. Will need to pass on that for now.

    My Paphiopedilum rungsuriyanum have arived

Please Bye Bye don't leave. The fact of the matter is we all love these plants and don't want them to go extinct. Whether yours are legal or not is of little importance, especially if they are seed grown. What is important is that you are helping keep the genetics alive, enjoying them in the...

The 'water twice' approach to watering

What would be great is if we had empirical, quantitative evidence to test these various methods to see what actually creates the best looking plants. For a true scientific case study there needs to be a sampling of 120 individuals. That's a lot of time and money for any hobbyist but it's more...

This is what people are being taught?

The truest explanation I can think of. Well said.
