    Cattleya rex 2023

I have tried hickory bark which worked amazingly well (an old tree fell at my parent's place), and I have a seedling on cork that seems to be ok as well. My rexes stay in flower about two weeks. Chadwick's article on rex says they last a month. Could be a difference in variety.

i keep seeing these phal japonica and feeling more and more tempted! Love your green falcata. I've got vocals in the band - let me know when rehearsal starts. :)

    Cattleya rex 2023

New leads are good! For me, the only time the plant puts out new roots is once the new growth is complete. So make sure it is in a stable position at that time, which should be in about 4 months for you. Hopefully it's a big enough growth to bloom in late summer!

    Cattleya rex 2023

    C. rex 'Nina' in bloom, potted together with 'Unu'. I stuck them on the same piece of wood as little seedlings, and now they have grown completely together. I wonder if I could ever have them judged for a cultural award, since it's difficult to distinguish which is which. I pulled this out of...

New discovery of a Phragmipedium besseae population from Peru.

Oh I think this forum is the best place to post it by far! If you do post elsewhere, please let me know, as I will be very eager to read it. Maybe you will guide me to see these in the wild in the near future.

New discovery of a Phragmipedium besseae population from Peru.

These photos and videos, as well as your descriptions, are priceless to me, thank you. You never happened upon any Cattleya rex in your travels, have you? I dream of seeing it in the wild.

Lots of big nurseries have remade this cross in the past couple of years. I know Chadwick and Carter & Holmes both have flasks in the works. H&R released flasks of this made with 4N parents (well, at least the rex parent for sure) a couple of years ago. I am somewhat expecting Ben Oliveros to...

Thank you for this insight. Does anyone know where I could find photos of rex 'Imperial' ?

    Cattleya rex 2023

It's hard for me to say for sure what has caused the rot problems I've had. My primary suspicion is that some of them became infected with Fusarium or other diseases during their two-year stay in the boarding area of a commercial greenhouse, where they were kept very wet and, in winter, very...

We have 7 years to decide on a name for the new grex...unless someone else does first.

Wonderful photos, Pete! I feel this flower crossed back onto rex might result in a super rex of sorts. We will see, the latest update from the lab was on April 26, "The seed are starting to be green protocorms". So fingers crossed.

    Cattleya rex 2023

Thanks everyone, they are truly a pain in the arse to grow, but I do enjoy the flowers. The next generations of seedlings are already well on their way, and I expect to see their first blooms in about 3 years, if all goes well. Flasks from a cross of these two awarded plants ('Inti' × 'Mayu')...

    Cattleya mossiae

This is exciting, I have a seedling from this cross, maybe he made it multiple times? It is a strong grower for sure, hope I get something this nice. I agree that it does not resemble any mossiae I've ever seen, but that's not saying too much. Wonderful flower and looking forward to hearing...
