    Paphiopedilum hookerae

After many months in bud, the bloom finally opened this week. Unfortunately, I managed to tag it when reaching for another plant and snapped the bloom off after a few days 🙄. The things you learn during your first year growing orchids.🙂 Thankfully it’s holding well as a cut flower. The photos...

    Learning more about brachys

Starting out with nice plants from you, Dave, Theresa (Hillsview) I am sure has also contributed to the success. Also have some nice leucochilum from Krull-Smith that are now budding.

    Learning more about brachys

Darlene, I hesitate to add anything here because I’m such a newbie compared to most everyone and have only been growing brachypetalum for the last year, but I’m having good success with them blooming and thriving so far. I’m in the PNW where it can be fairly cool. I believe Dave (Paph Paradise)...

    Paph Armeni White

Paph delenati alba ‘Mulino Moon’ x armeniacum ‘#1’ which I purchased from Hillsview in January. I tried to keep it in the same location and orientation while budding, but I obviously need to get better at staking earlier on.

Short vs tall pots for Phrags

Are you using the large Grodan cubes? And just Grodan? I’ve been using a mix of small Grodan and Leca but thinking about moving to the larger. I like the aquatic pot idea.

Beautiful plants and display, Darlene! What’s the name of the pinkish yellow Phrag on the far left, second from bottom? I love that coloration.

    Best apps/methods for inventorying/tracking collection

I agree, Rick. With as much money as people spend on orchids you’d think that the demand could support such an app. My dev skills aren’t great, but professionally I conduct research on apps and products to make their interfaces better. Maybe this is a retirement project:)

    Best apps/methods for inventorying/tracking collection

Thanks, Darlene. As a researcher, spreadsheets are my fallback because I like their flexibility and sorting/search features. I was just thinking I’d like to capture images of the plants periodically and was thinking that an app that allowed you to easily catalogue and organize photos would be great.

    Best apps/methods for inventorying/tracking collection

Yes, I realized phone access was an important feature when I was at a nursery open house and needed to be able to access my list.

    Paph lowii aureum?

Ah, very interesting. Thanks for the explanation. If it was yellow but didn’t have the purple markings would it still be considered a sanderae type? I’ve seen some discussion on the forum in distinguishing those with and without markings, I believe.

Thanks for the advice. I may try it as a hanging basket when I repot.

Phrags Patty Wak and Michel Tremblay

Good to know on the Tremblay, Eric. I haven’t seen many images of them posted so wasn’t sure how this compared.

    Paph lowii aureum?

My first multifloral to bloom! Plant is marked album but I believe it’s considered aureum because of the markings. Does this plant tend to lean as it grows? Both of my lowii appear to have that habit. Any tips for staking? Based on the lean I wasn’t sure of the best approach.
