Paph. rothschildianum (‘New Horizon’ FCC/AOS x ‘Raptor’ GM/JOGA)

Very cool. I have my first ever Roth spike. They are fascinating from the get-go with those crazy stripes on the bud sheath. I can definitely see how these could become addicting. It may take me a while to grow any as nice as yours!!!

More Phrag. besseae babies (and a couple of their phrag friends)

Where my mom lives, deer are the big problem. So, I understand. Used to be squirrels and chipmunks, too, but steely-eyed Mom and her eagle-eyed grandson pretty much solved that problem. Mom hangs tails on the clothesline. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!

    Phrag. Summer Sun first bloom

Michael, Plant looks healthy, but young. Not sure if it’s just the snap, but the leaves look plenty dark and the flower stalk is a bit spindly. If it were mine, I would try easing it into a brighter spot as it matures. The leaves get a bit lighter green, but some of my reds and oranges have...

More Phrag. besseae babies (and a couple of their phrag friends)

Hi Alex, Could be. For me, this was my best year ever for besseaes. I had at least 10 different plants in bloom, more buds still coming. It was a cooler “winter”, mine are in 100% sphagnum moss (they like it fresh and go downhill quickly when the moss starts to breakdown), and they only get...

    Phrag. Robert-Jan Quene´

Terry, Chuck Acker had at least a few flasks of RJQ available last year, pretty sure the cross is diploid. So, at some point, you ought to be seeing some out there. Mine seem to be moseying along, some faster than others, but I have not reached the epic state of blooming size. Maybe next year...

    Phrag. Robert-Jan Quene´

David, I’m so jealous of your sources. I tried to find a Lovely Lynne, but no luck yet. I am trying to grow up some other interesting 2nd/3rd gen PK crosses (not mine of course), but time will tell how they pan out. I’m really bad at the bin thing; mine gotta be pretty darn dead. Best, Kate

Hi Darlene, This was about two and half years. Best, Kate

    Phrag. Haley Decker

Not only is the color amazing, but the form looks pretty darn sweet! The size is within the lower end of the AOS awards range. If this is a first bloom and it continues to mature nicely, you should treat your local judges to a look some day! Heck, if this one was mine (and we had judging...

Paph Hilo Black Eagle 'Dolly Dagger' AM/AOS

Gorgeous plant, Rick!!! I am so over Zoom meetings and no judging.

    Phrag. Wossner Supergrande ‘Penn’s View’

Thanks Musa! The EZ Corners orchid boxes my husband put up in the back yard really fed my addiction! The thing is, with pipes and fittings and pre-made bases, he is able to put one of these up in a weekend. When we were doing smaller wooden orchid boxes, it would take several weekends (maybe...

    My first PEOY

Thanks Mike. Thank OzPaph (and Musa). I guess if I am going to grow these, I am going to have to learn to train them. I’m a bit afraid of staking too soon, too, while the stem is still soft and growing because I worry about creating a constriction that stops progress.

    Bulbophyllum medusae

Thanks William. It was quite a surprise, really.

    Bulbophyllum medusae

For those of you who get AOS’s Orchids magazine, check out my Bulbophyllum medusae on page 292 of the April 2021 edition. It was in the right place at the right time on a particularly good day.

    Jason Fischer 4n update

Hi David, I have a few Jason Fischers in bloom and one of them threw two flowers. Not a 4N like yours, but I’m happy.

    Phrag. Robert-Jan Quene´

Hi Terry, This first-to-open flower is pretty cupped, but n.s. is about 11 cm. The velvety substance is definitely kovachii influenced. Thanks for posting the link - that one is the bomb! I have about four more from the same flask, one of which is big enough to bloom and has a healthy-looking...

It’s honohono (nickname for Den. anosmum and related dendrobiums) season here in Hawaii

Those creamy pouches with red spots just draw me right in! Terrific plants!

    My first PEOY

I think I actually might see some flowers on this Paph. Prince Edward of York. I have never bloomed one before (or either of its parents, for that matter). Query - should I move it? Stake it? (It’s just hanging out on some fencing with a budding buddy). I’m afraid if I touch it, bad things...
