    your oldest orchids

I have a Ludisia discolor I got from a friend back in 2014 or 2015 I am still growing and a Paph rothschildianum I also got in 2014 from Carter & Holms that struggles on (but it has gone from 1 to 3 measly growths and looks to be enjoying a better fertilizer regimen and damper feet). Most of...

    Aircone pots

I use yogurt tubs. I push holes into the sides at the bottom edge. I put au upturned plastic mesh pot inside the yogurt tub so create an air pocket in the middle of the pot. It worked well but now I grow semi-hydroponic in lava stone in the yogurt tubs. There are creative ways to do thing...

    Mold on medium

I agree, some caution is needed and there are indeed obligative pathological species of fungi, but given the extent of the assumed growth, that plant would have be dead already if this was a pathological fungi. The critical issue here is the general care of the plant: it is getting more...

    Mold on medium

Mycorrhizae are fungi. They live with the plant. Many fungi live commensally with plants (and also on us). To germinate some Disa you would take native soil, pour sugar water over it and then sow the seed. The plants needed the fungi. Just because it is a fungus doesn't mean it is harmful...

    Mold on medium

To me that looks more like some sort of salt creep. I would expect an homogenous coating from fungus but this creep seems to follow the water. I think Ray is correct. If this is a a fungus then it must originate from the plant and as the plant is healthy I wouldn't be concerned about it.

    Any Guesses?

The petals make me think hybrid. Second generation Wossner Black Wings? Or perhaps Wossner Black Wings x phil or St Swithin? Whatever it is it is an impressively large flower on a small plant. I hope you can solve the mystery.

    Some windowsil Catts in flower

That is Lc Tropical Aurora SVO x Pot Little Toshie Gold Country. Third time flowering, still only a single flower. It sure is pretty though. It is breaking double and is free flowering so at some point the stars will align and I will have multiple blooms. It has a pleasant fragrance. Slc...

Anyone with a Polyantha x Cochlopetalum hybrid in flower?

Hello, I'm looking for pollen of a Polyantha x Cochlopetalum hybrid to put in a helenae I have in flower. For the cost of your pollen you get 50% of the off-spring (flasks or hardened off seedlings -- assuming there are any). Thanks

Unfortunate Ebay oops... no hope, right?

If this person is knowingly selling plants infested with mealie bugs then you should complain and rate them down. Did they advertise a mealie bug infested plant? These are pretty tiny plants -- how do you miss the bugs? Everything else is the risk you take with e-commerce.

    Mt.Toro (Swindled again!)

I want to click "like" for the flower but "angry" for the annoyment of waiting all this time for the wrong plant to flower. At least it is pretty.

I more of a yoghurt tub kind of guy but I appreciate the idea Soup containers are made of a former plastic than a deli tub.

    Bulbophyllum Echinolabium 'Repulsive Redolence'

Poorly developed or atrophied serratus posterior muscles will also have this banding pattern. Should make for a less dodgy Google search.

    Bulbophyllum Echinolabium 'Repulsive Redolence'

Cremaster muscle fibers have a similar pattern... (says the gross anatomy prof)

    Yikes, spotted leaf, erwinia?

Hello, I spray directly onto the plant. Soaking would not be a good idea as it could kill the mycorrhizae fungi and that would kill the plant. The peroxide is a surface sterilizing but you will see how it fizzes over the pin prick and does seem to penetrate where the leaf integument is damaged.
