Paphiopedilum Saint Swithin (rothschildianum x philippinense frma. album) x delenatii frma. alba

10 month update: the seedlings continue to put on size, with the largest beginning to produce their fifth leaf. Tesselation of the leaves is even more visible now that the leaves are getting bigger. No replate yet (lol), and no signs of browning. 🙂

    Paphiopedilum delenatii albescent?!

Interesting Misty Dell using delenatii var. dunkel posted in the Paph and Phrag Facebook group— looks very delenatii-y, save for a lightly pigmented pouch. If it has this little pigment using the dunkel variety, would it be out of the question for a Misty Dell using the regular color form of...

    Paphiopedilum delenatii albescent?!

I could imagine a scenario in which the albescent phenotype is not only a result of phenotypic plasticity, but also that this plasticity is something genetically controlled. Perhaps plants with the trait pass as the normal color form when grown under certain conditions? Or perhaps the trait is...

    Paphiopedilum delenatii albescent?!

I haven’t gone back to see it rebloom 😅 I would guess it would have more anthocyanin though.

    Paphiopedilum delenatii albescent?!

I saw a similar flower while visiting Floradise Orchids and before I could get too excited Steve told me it was due to how warm the greenhouse got that year. While his words applied to his plant, I wonder how this awarded plant would flower under warmer and cooler conditions. It’s lovely!

    WBW Mystery

I’d definitely want to grow a flask out if you can ship to the US!

    Chicago Tap Water?

Hi all, I’ve lived in NYC now for a bit over two years and have been blessed with great city tap water. Come this August, I’ll be moving to Chicago for my PhD studies and will (hopefully) make the move safely with all of my, as well as my partner’s, orchids. Does anyone here have any tips or...

The right care for Phragmipedium kovachii?

I have three surviving seedlings deflasked last spring. They’re much smaller than this one— I wonder if bubbling in the root zone would help them grow faster. I keep them pretty wet in an inch of water, with rockwool and perlite, plus a touch of oyster shell and a couple bits of Nutricote. Green...

    New roots drying out

It’s been growing slowly but surely! The newer growth leaves are wider and longer than the old ones. The discoloration seemed to coincide with too much moisture being retained next to the leaves, so per the suggestion of Ozpaph I pulled moss away from the plant and if I recall correctly doused...

An album Brachy x Multifloral backcrossed to Brachy…

Thank you! And correct. I sowed the seeds as soon as I noticed a change in the ovary’s color— it went from green to slight yellow, and was flasked before it could begin splitting.

Paphiopedilum Saint Swithin (rothschildianum x philippinense frma. album) x delenatii frma. alba

Flask update: the plantlets are now 7 months old! Roots are robust and some have begun showing signs of tesselation in the leaves.

An album Brachy x Multifloral backcrossed to Brachy…

Coming up on five months post flasking of this seedpod, Paph. Jennifer Stage frma. alba (godefroyae x philippinense) x leucochilum frma. album. I’m expecting albino flowers from this weird backcross of an intersectional Paph hybrid (Polyantha x Brachypetalum) crossed back to Brachypetalum...

    Phrag Polar Shift 'Ghostwriter' AM/AOS

Is it known if it or Phrag. Mem. Anne Stuckey are fertile? Curious to see how it can be used for white Phrag breeding.

    Phragmipedium manzurii alba

    Gorgeous!!

Paphiopedilum Saint Swithin (rothschildianum x philippinense frma. album) x delenatii frma. alba

Just an update on the mother flask— I’ve yet to replate, but many of the babies have begun forming leaves. Also worth noting that there are new protocorms germinating, and that some of them haven’t gotten the memo to start differentiating leaf tissue and have continued to grow in size.

Wanted Paphiopedilum Pinocchio or Avalon Mist, white pouch

Hi all, I’m looking for a nicely shaped Paph. Pinocchio (or similar cochlopetalum hybrid), particularly with a white or near-white pouch. I already have a cute yellow Paph. primulinum, and I’d really like a nice almost white sequential bloomer to accompany it. 🙂

Half-strength P668 made with coconut water as a source of sugar. I followed Here But Not’s recipe for mother flasks.

Paphiopedilum Saint Swithin (rothschildianum x philippinense frma. album) x delenatii frma. alba

Thanks, perhaps I’ll see flowers before I’m 40 😅 It’s an option for the next time the plant is in bloom— since it was a young plant I decided to only have it hold one pod, and I went with one that would yield a higher amount of white to white-ish flowers. The half album plants are both Aa, so...

Paphiopedilum Saint Swithin (rothschildianum x philippinense frma. album) x delenatii frma. alba

I want to make a Paph hybrid that looks like a white rothschildianum. To get there, I figured I needed a way to get a roth shape, a way to wipe out anthocyanin, a way to wipe out carotenoids, and a way to wipe out chlorophyll. I think there are many ways to do this, and this is the first route...
