Old paph no id, spotted and curly, any ideas?

My guess would be Paphiopedilum Leeanum; a cross between insigne and spicerianum made in 1884 by Lawrence. This is a very common; variable hybrid but I think your flower fits within that variation. As always, there is never a 100% guaranteed name for a plant that lost it's tag. Maybe some other...

    Best apps/methods for inventorying/tracking collection

really great question... and I hope someone shares the golden answer.... I used OrchidWiz but also moved out after they discontinued support. Also all their internal databases were too protected for me to create any add-on missing functionality. I also tested a few androids 'hobby / collection'...

question about effect of window screens on light

Also consider that in the northern hemisphere during the next two months your DLI could double or triple from more hours of sunshine, higher intensity of sunlight, or even the sun could suddenly reach places on your window sill it does not reach today. Your plants might need time to adapt to the...

    Paph Season 2024

Hey Tony... it must be painful to leave your "Paph Season 2023" with more than 19.000 views and more 300 replies behind. Amazing result: ⭐⭐⭐⭐. My sincere wish to you for this "Paph Season 2024" is to break that record in 2024 with even more beautiful paph pictures! You started well; Good Luck!

Brown filaments and tiny sponts on the undersides of leaves

A very interesting question. I would certainly like to read any further comments. My line of thinking was also on mites, but I am certainly not the expert in this field. Maybe you have some level of control, and the infection needs to be worse before you start to see the webs? I did not know...

    Paph charlesworthii

I bought this beauty this year while in bud, so all credits for setting flower have to go to Exotic Plant Company. I like the darker, broad flag contrasting with the pure white staminode and the broad synsepalum. It is a sibling cross between 'Pink Turban' and 'Pink Balloon'

    Paph. insigne fma. sanderianum ???

I looked at a species key for the Flora of China which compares insigne versus villosum/gratrixianum from wild plants. insigne: Petals 1.5–2 cm wide, with same color on both sides of midvein, apical half slightly broader than or nearly as broad as basal half villosum/gratrixianum: Petals 2–4.5...

    Paph. tranlienianum fma. alboviride

I belief umbo is the correct name for that "knob" ( link to Kew reference ) But as long we all know what is meant, I am ok with calling it knob, boss, warts, button... And yes, I like the green umbo as well :)

    Paph. tranlienianum fma. alboviride

Yes it is... and to be honest, I really love that narrow pagoda-shape a lot. Similar to spicerianum, parishii... I personally always prefer "pagoda-shape" above "flat pancake" dorsals on these type species.

    Paph. insigne fma. sanderianum ???

Thank you monocotman and Leslie for your appreciated comments. Your comments made me reconsider. Here is my current way of thinking: 1) Provenance: is unclear, the nursery has closed years ago. Plants were in their cultivation for many many years, but that means nothing botanically. 2) Petals...

    Paph. insigne fma. sanderianum ???

"to be or not to be insigne, that's the question" The original tag only said Paph. insigne "yellow". The seller has closed shop year ago. I have looked at as many insigne pictures and old paintings and descriptions I could find, but honestly I am still in doubt. Insigne is highly variable in...

    yet Paph. callosum ?

For me, the natural variation of the species (in flowers and in leaves) I have seen is divers enough to call them both callosum. I like the darker one more :-)
