    Paph druryi

For me it is always a balancing act with any new plant in collection. Do I want to limit disturbance to only "a location change"? Do I want to keep it in the original media? Do I want to disturb the roots now? After just too many trojan horses with resistant mealy bugs or other free fauna... I...

    Paph druryi

Hi Richgarrison, I don't think my culture is ideal but if I learned anything over the years, it's never let past experience (your own of from someone else) scare or stop you from trying and learning. Every plant has it's own genes and it's own tolerance to culture. My two plants get exactly the...

    P. primulinum? var purpurascens?

Lovely plant and flower! I agree with Herbert, for me this is not within the expected variation of primulinum forma purpurascens. Sadly there has been so much of mislabeling in the subgenera Cochlopetalum, I think "hybrid" is the closest you will ever get.

    Paph druryi

In my "new member Introduction" BrucherT asked me about my druryi's, so here we go... To be honest, they are a challenge, some years they will accept any bug, pest or desease around as if they were magnetic. They loose vigor and need time to recover. Then suddenly they grow like crazy and...

    Paphiopedilum wenshanense ‘Trench Wars’

From the broad range of colors and shapes in wenshanense... this is a really nice one: "some concolor color influence" with "some bellatulum shape influence" and covered with wonderful spots. This is a keeper Leslie !

    Hello from DirGo in Belgium

I have been reading this forum for many years and finally took the step last October to start posting. I live in Belgium and been growing orchids for more than 40 years. I grew in a greenhouse but after moving house in 2006 I had to go back to indoor growing. My collection has room for ±120...

    Paph bellatulum fma album

Thanks for your advice Murray, pretty aligned with Leslie's comment above: if you made the leaves wet, make sure they dry fast afterwards and keep air circulating to discourage the fungi.

    Paphiopedilum rothschildianum 'Sam's Best' FCC/AOS x Perfection FCC/AOS

I always consider this species the King of the Slippers (and sanderianum can be his Queen ) :) and it's really great to see pictures of royalty ! Hope it will do again better next flowering ! First flowering was really great. Wondering if you turned the plant during last phase of flower opening...

Paph philippinense var leavigatum fma album

Time to share another family picture. First time blooming of my plant (flowered beginning of this year) I wished I had also taken a picture when it was fully open.

    barbigerum fma. aureum

A wonderful one Istvan ! I love the more intense yellow (compared to mine posted a few days ago) Is the flower fully open? It seems the flag could get a bit more curving?

    Paph barbigerum fma aureum

Thank you Rudolf. I have been growing paphs for over 40 years now and at the time I started; albinos were so rare and so expensive you could only dream of ever seeing them in real life. Lukily in more recent years they became more available and those old dreams can come true now. I have a few...

    Paph bellatulum fma album

Thanks for your comment Rudolf. Honestly I also consider both bellatulum within the normal variation of the species for now, but I appreciate OzPaph comment because I never anticipated that the low angle of taking my pictures completely distorted the shape. For me the lesson learned from his...

    Paph bellatulum fma album

Very good point! I am fully with you Ozpaph... This flower had a very hooded flag so I took the picture a bit upward "looking in" showing more of the flag and flower insides; but that angle made the pouch look shorter/broader. Here is another picture a bit more horizontally taken. Better but...

    Paph venustum fma measuresianum

I would like to share another family picture. One flower open another one in the making... Very similar to my lawrenceanum fma hyeanum picture I also see the slight reddish hue at the end of the petals when I take the picture in my dark walled area with cool white ring LED; but when I take a...

    Paph bellatulum fma album

Thank you both for advice/comments. The regular bella is not suffering the same problem and sits right next to it. The fungi after stalled water sounds about right, it is always in a "spoonlike dent" it tend to start. One of my personal challenges is not changing too much too fast while...
