What is your favorite orchid? Lets have some fun

    1. Favorite: Paph. purpuratum forma album (the albino in my avatar) as my first successful flowering a more challenging albino species. 2. First: Vuystekeara Cambria 'Plush' a great example of old school hybridizing in the early 1900's into a new genus by the Belgian Charles Vuylsteke combined...

    Paph. haynaldianum var. laurae?

this link could also be useful: link to Dr.Tanaka's Paph site "this new variety have a shorter inflorescence 25~35cm long and the petals are downswept almost paralel along the sides of the pouch. The spotting near the base of the dosal sepal are either reduced or absent. The pouch and the base...

    Paph Ho Chi Min

I wish to thank the three of you for the comments. When it flowered it "resembled the species I purchased"; enough for me to belief the tag was correct without further questioning it (what a rookie mistake). After reading your precious comments I took a deep dive into the species descriptions...

    Paph Ho Chi Min

EDIT My initial posting was as Paph vietnamense After valuable comments make by Justin, NEslipper and Happypaphy7 I renamed it to Paph Ho Chi Min EDIT One of the few non albino's in my Paph collection, but I am very happy with it!

    yet Paph. callosum ?

Hi Rudolf, it is a nice colored flower for sure, but I don't think it is pure barbatum. For me, sigmoid or more pendant petals are a sign for callosum genes, while in barbatum I am always looking for petals that spread almost horizontally.

    Paph esquirolei fma viride

Luckily No, I think it must have been some reflection... it is pure white

    Paph thaianum

thanks for all very nice comments !

    Paph esquirolei fma viride

Another albino flowering for the first time: esquirolei fma viride. I am very happy with the result. Important "note to self": never turn a plant towards the light while the flower is opening ! Flower is nice symetrical, but it does not look like this anymore after picking it up and putting it...

    Paph thaianum

I have been sniffing since I read your post, but I smell nothing :-) My delenatii is also in flower and smells deliciously.

Thank you Rudolf, it must be a combination... great plant genes + a lot of luck :) I treat this fowliei the same as my other mottled leaf paphs.

    Paph lowii fma aureum (*)

I fully agree Martin, I explained my view on (to be or not to be) albino in great depth in my villosum fma aureum (*) posting. I didn't want to repeat history.... I love it with dots !

    Paph lowii fma aureum (*)

Another albino family member I like to introduce: Paph lowii fma aureum. Grown indoor under artificial lights (same as the rest of my collection) and it flowers yearly.

    Trade Information

I can highly recommend. I have ordered several times from Exotic Plant Company and I always received great vigorous quality plants. Michael Tibbs will always reply to questions - sometimes accept a little delay as I heard he travels a lot - but the answer will come for sure. All the plants that...

    Paphiopedilum philippinense roebelinii

Adding to that fun fact: there is the German letter ö (o with two dots on top - o with umlaut) and that always get 'translated' to oe in scientific names as explained in the International Association for Plant Taxonomy (IAPT) rules: 60.7. Diacritical signs are not used in scientific names. When...

    Paph villosum fma aureum (*)

Description of red/anthocyanine pigmentation on my plant: Minimal red spots at the base of the leave sheets, much less than the normal form, but clearly present. Penduncle and ovary are light green, but all covered with lots of red hairs/villi. Base of the petals and backside of the inner lip...

Paph. villosum var. annamense (or not)

My guesses are aligned: Paph. Lathamianum (man made cross of spicerianum x villosum made by Latham in 1888) or Paph. x lushuiense (natural hybrid of spicerianum x villosum discovered in 2009 ) I have seen much more Lathamianum's around than x lushuiense , so most likely it is the first one...

    Paph philippinense

Great results and well done on these roots! and very nice flowers too! Maybe something to consider... I have used the double pot also for many years. It for sure gives stunnng results in root growth. For me the challenge started when having to report and sometimes damaging a lot of the precious...

    Paph villosum fma aureum (*)

Thanks for all nice comments !! The reason I "disqualified" it as albino was due to the red villi or soft hairs covering the peduncle, ovary, and parts of the flower, so typical for identifying villosum as species. Two more detailed pictures attached. But as already shared, I will keep it...

    Paph villosum fma aureum (*)

(*) bought as this albino form but on flowering sadly it got "botanically disqualified as albino" for having small anthocyanin (red) dots - also I was hoping for the aureum with full yellow flag, but it is the one with white rim. I still love it very much and for sure it deserves a place in my...
