    Hello from BC, Canada

Welcome from Ladner, BC Linda. Ditto about the VanDusen sale next Saturday. There will be local vendors there too so you should find lots of goodies if you're in the Vancouver area.

    Paph. Shun-Fa Golden........seeing double!

Thanks! Stirred the pot a little taking in myanmaricum and the judges weren't quite sure what to do either because there was nothing in the AOS database. But they all liked it enough to want to judge it and said "well we're in Canada so we can do what we want!" Kudos to them for that. For the...

    Paph. Shun-Fa Golden........seeing double!

So, an update after the monthly judging session today. I got a bit excited when the judges took it outside to have a better look in the daylight. But when they came back in they put it back on the display table so that was that. As an interesting sidenote though I took my Paph. myanmaricum along...

    Paph. godefroyae var. ang thong

Lol, I was pretty sure it wasn't a true ang-thong. Ah well. Thanks for the feedback everyone :)

Egoistic birthday treat: P. godefroyae (quite red) and P. leucochillum

Now that's my idea of a birthday present! Nice choices. I love both of them and wouldn't be able to choose one over the other so of course would do as you did and take them both home. Happy Birthday :)

    Paph. godefroyae var. ang thong

Back in bloom after taking a few years off. I don't know if it's truly ang thong but the tag reads Paph. godefroyae var. ang thong 'Spotted Beauty' x sib 'Tall Beauty' for those of you who may be curious.

    Paph Shun-fa Golden

That's interesting. Mine smells very heavily like hangianum.

    Paph. Shun-Fa Golden........seeing double!

Thanks for your comments and suggestions everyone. I think I'll take it for judging next weekend and see what the judges think. I'll let you know the outcome.

    Paph. Shun-Fa Golden........seeing double!

I could try doing something like that although I'd be afraid of damaging the flowers at this point. I probably should have done that while they were in bud. Good suggestion and I'll keep it in mind it it decides to do a double bloom again in the future.

    Paph. Shun-Fa Golden........seeing double!

I hadn't thought of that. Maybe next time......if there is a next time?

    Paph Shun-fa Golden

Very nice flower and it sure has a lot of hangianum showing through. Do you recall if it was fragrant?

    Paph. Prince Edward of York

That would be a keeper for me :)

    Paph. Shun-Fa Golden........seeing double!

Thank you for the nice comments! I was thinking of taking it to monthly judging next week but was unsure because of the upturned pouch on the first flower, likely due to the second flower pushing up against it when it was in bud. Who cares. I think I'll take it anyway and let the judges scratch...

    Paph. Shun-Fa Golden........seeing double!

This is a first bloom for this plant and what a surprise it gave me with two blooms opening several weeks apart. Not only are the flowers huge and standing up nice and tall without support, they are also both incredibly fragrant. A keeper for sure :)

    Paph Fanaticum

Very, very nice for a first bloom. Congratulations!

    Paph. myanmaricum first bloom

It was new to me too when I came across it on the vendor's pre-order list prior to our show and sale. The flower is huge compared to the plant. I'm glad you like it and hope you will be able to acquire one soon.

    Paph. myanmaricum first bloom

I keep track of what's going on in Tuktoyaktuk, a hamlet on the shores of the Arctic Ocean, which I visited a number of years ago. The sun has just started to set there. I haven't checked communities higher north in Baffin Island but would imagine sunset/sunrise is similar to what you have in...
