Wow, Phal with 2 new leaves!

I have two Phals. Neither named, one was a Christmas Present from my sis and the other a Mother’s Day/BDay gift from my son. I mark them with a pink butterfly clip for my sisters and a blue clip for my son’s. I had a lot of beautiful named hybrids that were destroyed by high winds and baseball...

    Returning to ST and orchids

I found the Phrags are attractive to cats so keep them out of reach

    Returning to ST and orchids

This is my 4 all trying to be lap cats at the same time! I had a few orchid fiascos when the closest kitty was very young! She was a climber and clutsy…I ended up repotting often! She is now a year and a half, and the orchids have gone a whole year without an incident.

    A Phal with No Name

I saw one almost identical for sale for $49, but looks can be deceiving. Claims fragrance. No description on fragrance though. Says Magenta but seems to lack the “pow” yours has

    Ascda. Princess Mikasa 'Sapphire'

Ascocendra Princess Mikasa has held my heartstrings since I got the Rosada for my birthday (source was RF Orchids in Miami.) the blooms were INCREDIBLE!!! I lost it because I didn’t have a clue how to winter a Vandacious (spelling?) plant that had no substrate, in MN! I am sure it didn’t get...

    strange Paphiopedilum delenatii foliage

I love the new variegated pattern! I had tried to grow paphs but one, an unnamed hybrid that was a gift, was sending out new growth way up the stem! Showed it to one of our major Paph growers here in MN and he had never seen something like it! It was climbing out of the pot obviously, only more...

    Even another new growth!

Wonderful to share other new growths coming along! I am currently laying plans to protect my Phrags from hot weather! Determined not to repeat last summer!

    Some seedling progress

I only said they don’t do well in pot culture due to the need for many months of Winter temp. Max of 32 degrees or lower, or they won’t come up in the spring…if your out of the proper climate you need to offer artificial freezing to succeed in pot culture! I prefer the idea of mass plantings...

    Cool, they are beautiful!

    Some seedling progress

Wow, my State Flower! They are native to MN. They are an orchid that loves the rich acidic Northern MN soil! They are common near the peat bogs that host Tamarack and Black Spruce. The dropped needles keep the soil on the acidic side! I can grow them on the East side of my home. They prefer east...

Phalaenopsis Crystal Surprise ‘Scarlet O’Hara’ HCC/AOS

Well, I have been quite successful with Phals and the Phal type of Dendrobiums which are warm growing and don't require a rest period! I am approaching the first Anniversary of my Phrags and short the one I lost, they have all stabilised and are actively growing! I have never attempted water...

That 1st pic looks like it was taken under artificial light. The other two look like they are daylight indoor photos

Phalaenopsis Crystal Surprise ‘Scarlet O’Hara’ HCC/AOS

Hmmm! Well, that is pretty basic for most epiphytic orchids. It was in a hanging pot and it is possible I let it dry out too much! I also put it out for the summer hanging in a tree. I really am not used to hanging pot culture where orchids are concerned. Do hanging pots dry out faster?? Is a...
