What's mean of fma. Alba vs Album

They all mean the same thing. var. alba, var. album, fma. alba, & fma. album all refer to orchids that lack red, purple, and brown pigments. Their flowers are various mixtures of white, green, and yellow. Also, if the species usually has purple on the underside of the leaves, it will be...

    Paph emersonii

I think I sold you your emersonii :D . It came out of the same flask as this one. I'd be interested to see how much of the red speckling yours has.

    Paph emersonii

I was definitely having a WTF moment when I saw the ovary emerging directly from the fan. Was very much happy when the tiny spike appeared. This growth is 28 cm. Dunno, this plant has always had pale leaves while growing right next to other plants with much darker leaves. And my whole...

    Paph emersonii

Hi everyone, My Paph emersonii is blooming on a short spike. Because 2020. It started to open with no spike at all visible, but luckily the spike got just long enough that the bloom could unfold properly. It bloomed normally on it's first growth 2 years ago. I got this in flask from...

    Orchid Digest - Phragmipedium issue!

Yes, $40 is steep for a single issue. But I think if you join for a year of four issues for $39, it will start with the Phrag issue. You'll probably want to email them to be sure.

How serious is finding tiny snails in your plants?

Long overdue update: snails are gone I repotted everything and dropped several metaldehyde pellets on top of each pot. I waited a few weeks and reapplied the metaldehyde. Then, due to my abundance of paranoia, again a few weeks later. They is dead.

    paphiopedilum hermanii album . Question

Even if Paph hermanii is shown conclusively to be a natural hybrid of helenae and hirsutissimum, you cannot make the natural hybrid x hermanii by crossing the two species in cultivation. If you do cross helenae and hisutissimum in cultivation, you have made an artificial hybrid. I believe the...

    Pollinia exchange

No, I wasn't a hugger before the pandemic. How about a polite wave from across the room?

    paphiopedilum hermanii album . Question

It sounds like hermanii is a stable population in the wild - whether of natural hybrid origin or not. Since hermanii is reproducing within its own population, there's always a chance that an albino can appear. This would happen due to genetic mutations in a plant that disable the anthocyanin...

    paphiopedilum hermanii album . Question

Hello, Sorry, but you would get an artificial hybrid if you made that cross. The only way to get a true hermanii album would be to find one in the wild. Or in very rare cases, albino versions of species can appear in artificial propagation of a species. --Stephen

    Paph. tigrinum

#2 has bloomed! Not quite as nice as #1, but still lovely. And #3 seems to be in very low spike. So good news all around. Probably only going to keep 1 or 2 when all is said and done, but it's good to have choices. --Stephen

Need some help identifying Cyp. reginae

Hi Everyone, I recently took a drive to West Virginia to check out a spot I'd been told had Cyp. reginae growing in the wild. I think I found the plants, but no buds or blooms. Maybe. Can anyone with experience with this species confirm either way if these are Cyp. reginae? And if so, was I...

Can humidity levels be too high?

Yes, because the humidity in the cabinet in the summer will stay above 85% all the time, reducing it with fans to 70% means there will be no diurnal variation. I supposed I could see if there is a more advanced controller for the fans that incorporates a timer. But I don't think I'm at that...
