    kovachii seedlings

Nice job Mike. Very healthy and I like the way you have them diagonal in the pot. Here are some of my 735 seedlings in 3.5" square and 4.5" round pots. Mine are a little haphazard and less uniform. They were around the size of yours a few months ago and had a crazy growth spurt when I...

    Paphiopedilum kolopakingii

One more bloom to go. Unfortunately, it had a weird s-shaped spike when it was developing. I like the blooms though.

    A Few Spring Paphs

    Awesome!

Paphiopedilum Fanaticum (micranthum 'War Eagle' x malipoense 'Ruth')

Thanks for the reminder. I keep forgetting. Just went back to look at it and I didn't notice a smell. I will try again when the light has been on longer.

Phragmipedium Pink Panther (schlimii 'Pink Ice' x fischeri 'Tony')

Wow, great contrast on the color! Nice form too.

Mem Mariza Rolando (kovachii x Hanne Popow)

Yes, I'm pretty happy with it. I didn't really think about the dorsal maybe improving with later flowers. Good point. 9.5 cm spread, pretty good considering it is 25% schlimii.

Paphiopedilum Fanaticum (micranthum 'War Eagle' x malipoense 'Ruth')

This one just opened up. I was friends with Fred and Ruth, and saw the malipoense in bloom long ago. It was the early 90s or late 80s. The pouch is very different from the one I bloomed last year. The stem is much longer and the webbing is darker. Here is the one from last year. It opened...

Mem Mariza Rolando (kovachii x Hanne Popow)

It's not opened up yet, but I'm excited. I've been waiting for it to bloom for a couple years. It had a very large growth last year that ended up dying off and now it is blooming off a smaller growth. The color is actually redder than it looks in the picture which is surprising based on the...

    Greenhouses?

What you run into with larger with wood framed greenhouses is that wider becomes more difficult to do with rafters. You might be better off with trusses after a point. 12 ft should be fine with rafters. With a longer greenhouse, you end up having potential issues with your ridge board. If...

Three different besseae hybrids in bloom

Thanks. Looks great! I'm looking forward to mine blooming again!

    Grodan/Perlite growing media . . .

My experience has been similar to Ray's. Adding something to open it up helps. I use either perlite or LECA or often both. If using perlite only, use a very coarse version. Most of my rockwool cube experience is with phrags. Paphs have been kind of hit and miss and even when they do great...

Three different besseae hybrids in bloom

I believe both kaieteurum and dalessandroi are considered species. However some argue they are variants. Yours looks very similar to Rosalie Dixler. I have a division of the "Fox Valley" clone.

Three different besseae hybrids in bloom

" I know it’s not a besseae but close..... " Yes, and QF Maria is two taxonomist arguments away from being a Rosalie Dixler.

    First phrag flask

I've had real good luck with Chuck's flasks. They are always healthy plants

Misty Run Sunrise 'Acker's Dawn' x manzurii 'Waunakee'

This one opened up a couple days ago.

    Paph delenatti alba

I might as well add mine. It is almost fully open today.

Phrag. Greta Twee (Don Wimber 'Daddy Mac' AM/AOS x schilimii 'Passionate Pink')

Thanks. I use a weak fertilizer with every watering, too. Mine is around 10" leaf span but it needs repotted. The base needs to be planted a little bit deeper plus the roots have filled pot.

    Fritz Schomburg triploid and tetraploid

Are you sure that's not a toddler's hand? Pretty awesome. Great form and color too!

Thanks. Mine is a little smaller than that plus single growth. So mine will be a while yet.
