Is $700 a year on orchids a lot?

I spend $0.00 on plants per year. Yep, no money spent at all, none. I know, it’s amazing! <checks to see if wife is still looking and listening> In related news, wanna buy a bridge or perhaps a beautiful ocean-front lot in Phoenix? Tyler

    Paph Chou-Yi Anigode ‘Yautja’ AM/AOS

I had this awarded this past weekend here at the California Sierra Nevada JC supplemental meeting at Dueling Dogs Brewery. It had three flowers and two buds on three spikes. Put on a real show this season! Incase you were wondering, ‘Yautja’ is the species of alien from the Predator movies. The...

    Phragmipedium Zapatilla de la Virgen

Something about long petal Phrags that makes me smile. Love em. Not the easiest thing to photograph without a proper setup and gear. Iphone works to capture the moment. Open for four days so far and petals are 68 cm and getting longer. Tyler

    Phal violacea ‘Paisley Park’

Justin - this is a survivor from a group purchased a while ago. They want it warm to hot and I grow intermediate to cool. They all go on the heat pad in winter under lights with other warm loving plants (Mexipedium etc). This one is potted in 50/50 styro peanuts and moss in a basket and that is...

    Phal violacea ‘Paisley Park’

I dont have many Phalaenopsis for various reasons, but jumped on the bandwagon on these violacea’s. I mean, why not?! Color, scent and they flower for a long time. Not the best flowering this year as far as shape and recurve BUT nearly 2x the size from last. Tyler

    The journey to Mars

This is like picking your favorite child. Damn! Well, I can narrow it down to two species: Paph micranthum and Phrag besseae. Sadly my best mic passed earlier this year but the Phrag is still with us. Pic of Paph mic. ‘Dana Lynn’ RIP sadly Tyler

I like this hybrid. One of mine will be putting on a display in a couple weeks. Did you give it a clonal name yet?? How about Paph Choi-Yi Anigode ‘SOLD’ to quote Mr de los Santos. Tyler

Need help with besseae and kovachii habitat

Hellp all, I’m brainstorming a potential display for a show and would like to know if any of you know what other orchid species grow in the native habitat with besseae and kovachii. Yes, I know they are not found growing together. Thanks Tyler

Paphiopedilum Mem. Joan Levy ‘Crystelle’ AM/AOS (81 points)

Well I love both species by themselves and together is pretty nice too. Gig does some fun things in its progeny for sure. Tyler

    Aerate RO water?

On a related topic, aerating DI water is highly suggested (by me) since it appears that the O2 has been stripped from the water when leaving the filter. Just my observation and informal conclusion.

    Wanted Good Phrag. besseae

Hey Tom I picked up a flask of ‘Red Rocket’ x self a couple years ago. They should be blooming this year. Will let you know. Several attempts have been made to set pods on a few OZ besseae as well as divisions of ‘Red Circle’ and a couple other selects that I have. Sadly the couple pods that...

    Piping Rock new owner

Heather, I agree with everything you said here! Good luck on the Pod Cast! Is there a link that we can all tune in? Thought about letting the Sac Society know so they can add it to the newsletter? Tyler
