Leslie’s description of a concolor lueddemanniana back in 2021 when you had another postal said that the base color of the lip needed to be the color of the petals, but there could be yellow, but no other red/purple/magenta on the lips - no anthocyanin. That would make this one not a concolor.
What is remarkable about the flower is how almost red it is. Most Don Wimber flowers have more orange. There is also NO little notch on the bottom of the petals that many have had. The petals are also proportionately wide and very horizontal. The only thing not quite remarkable is the size. Some...
I calculate that you are about 41 ppm N, so less than half strength in the MSU/K-Lite universe. Probably perfect with your long dwell time. If this is also what you are using on your Cattleyas in pots with bark it is good information that high amounts of fertilizer are not needed for this genera...
They are just growing really well and probably outgrowing the pots. Air roots are completely functional as long as you keep them frequently moist. You just have some massive growth and roots to deal with when you report, but the multi growth plants give you excellent flowerings.
Both MSU and K-Lite contain copper sulfate, manganese sulfate, and zinc sulfate. I am assuming that Michigan State that developed/tested the MSU mixture tried to be sure there was adequate soluble sulfate, but I certainly don’t know the data.
Did the calculations. Akerne's website says the standard dosage is 0.5 grams per liter, which with their formula of 11.8% N is 59 ppm N using Ray's online calculator. So full strength in a gallon (3.8 liters) would be 1.9 grams. One place I read said that a blue scoop is 1 gram, which would mean...
How many liters (or gallons) is your watering can? I think that Akerne means full strength to be about 100 ppm N.
The special situation you have is a very long dwell time of the fertilizer solution with your roots because the roots are in contact with the solution for a long time. There may...
Do you use half of a blue scoop in 2 L of water? What I quickly found was that full strength was a full scoop in 2 L of water and might be 65 ppm N. So, half of a scoop per 2 L might be 32 ppm N and it should have a pretty low EC. It looks like you are lightly feeding them. Is this the same that...
The Joyce Hannington picture is incredible. You have a great collection of outstanding heritage whites. Since all the flowers are fantastic, ease of growth, compactness, etc. become issues in deciding your favorite. Would you put one at the top of your list?
I got Bob Betts ‘Tacoma’ from Chadwicks on an ebay auction. I am usually good about recording whether it was a mericlone and I didn’t note that but the plant looks like a non-bloomed seedling so I think it is mericlone. You probably know or can find out. Too bad that good photography didn’t...
Thanks, Patrick. Jerry sent me photos of ‘Hyperion’. It was my suggestion for the naming of the cultivar, Hyperion being the name of a Greek titan. I have not asked him whether it would breed.
Any idea what the ppm of Nitrogen is that you are giving with each feed? If you haven’t calculated it, what is the N-P-K of the fertilizer and how are you mixing up the solution. I know it is a complete fertilizer, but I can’t get it to come up in a search over here. Thinking it is like MSU so...
Your leaf color is very nice, David. Please tell us how you have fertilized the trays as the plants have grown. I am glad you are going to try some of the really good ones in continuing individual tray culture. I am interested in how they grow.
