    St. Swithin (from ST member)

A few months ago @Tom-DE was selling his St. Swithin... This is the division he sent me a few years ago. I didn't have a picture then, but here you go. Very robust grower! If you are planning on going to the Dayton show next weekend, this is the exact plant I will be contributing to the...

    Paph Taiwan

Roth x platyphyllum. This is a big boy... About a meter in leafspan. Another old one from Taylor Orchids 'keep out' bench. :) I can't remember who got the other half of this about a month ago, but someone did...

    Paph Temptation 'LF Ron'

kolopakingii x philippinense. Got it from Taylor Orchids when Ron closed up, and I think he had it for a long time. Maybe 20 years old? It is multifloral season... This one has six flowers, pretty big. Not awarded today, it seems like the average flower count is seven. I'd counted seven...

    Phrag grown hydroponically in aquaria

I've grew phrags in bubble hydroponics (well over a year and the plants seemed to love it). Lots of oxygen. I've never tried still water, seems unlikely to work but who knows? This was a demonstration for the college I teach at (was also growing some other plants including tomatoes that way)...

    Wanted Randsii hybrid

I have little ones of Randy Booth but I don't know if I have anything else that is bigger. Probably not. I should have a healthy number of randsii in compots...

    Paphiopedilum Memoria Rapee Sagarik

somebody make thaianum x wardii... I'm sure somebody has (I probably have, will have to check my notes). :) I think that has potential, just grow it up a bit.

Phragmipedium .... fischerii .... don't bite my head off.

Breeds differently and it is too late to change the RHS registry. That horse has left the barn and probably left the country... There are quite a few species that I would lump if it was up to me.

    Daylily seedlings

One of my orchid mentors (now long gone) was a daylily breeder. He would make crosses in Michigan and send them to a friend in Texas to grow for a year or two - they grow twice as fast in Texas evidently. But Michigan is mostly perfect for daylily growing - we have wild ones in every ditch. I...

    Blooming brachys

Bamboo skewers are an unsung hero of plant staking. Cheap, disposable, and just the right size for small plants. I use them all the time. You can cut them down with pruners...

    Rockwool cubes

I get them at the hydroponics store on the west side of lansing. I just dump the old mix out into low spots in the yard. I use about 75% bark and 25% rockwool (right now, it varies as I make mix), sometimes I throw spongerok in there if I have it. Main problem is the glass fibers get into my...

When/how to put a stick to the flowerspike

You can loosely tie (I use clips) about halfway up the spike if you think it is too heavy to stay upright. Most of the time they stay up on their own. Wait until the flower has opened (for a day or two) and then stake it (angling back a bit) to a presentation that looks good. That will show...

First Compot- Paph fairrieanum album- Next steps?

I just did it today with a paph compot (Wossner Black Wings x Joanna Burkhardt). Three absolutely gigantic plants - one was at least 12" across. The gigantic ones went right into 3.5" pots. I usually make up 'mini-compots' with the remainders - 5 or so to a 2.25" pot.

    Wanted Phrag. longifoum album

I have about 24 longifolium album seedlings (well established) if anybody still wants some. Same caveats as above, $10 each plus shipping. Also, pretty much as many phrags as you could (should?) want. $10 each. Mostly small breeding, mostly Chuck's. My choice, it is a mystery box. Ready...

First Compot- Paph fairrieanum album- Next steps?

I put them back into a community pot (often a much smaller pot).

You can come any time... No promises on lists, I can never get to the end of a day and still have time for lists, it seems.

do I have reason to complain?

Looks like it cooked in the box... Shipping company's fault. But if I had sold it to you I'd want to replace it. So let them know. I think most good sellers would want to have the chance to make sure you were satisfied. If they don't want to make it right then you learn something, too.
