    Phragmipedium Andean Fire

Interesting. But why would you rename it? Seems to match what I'd expect. Of course I don't expect anything different as the parents of both are effectively synonymous (in my opinion), but that doesn't change the RHS's naming system.

    Paph Saiun 'Littlefrog' AM/AOS

I know of two. Mine and a big phrag.

    Paph Saiun 'Littlefrog' AM/AOS

Doesn't feel like a show unless I contribute to the AOS a little bit. Small show (Ft Wayne, after several years of no shows here). My exhibit was also small. sukhakhulii x wardii Two of my favorite species. This one is definitely much more sukhakhulii influenced than most of the awards...

    CO2

Absolutely. Although contrary to common opinion most need light to fruit. Not high intensity but not in a dark cave.

    CO2

It would have an effect in my 800 sq feet or so grow room. Don't know how many it would take for a greenhouse. But mushroom growing can be pretty addictive. It is a whole new world of hobby.

    CO2

You can buy bags of mushroom spawn that will generate CO2 over a period of several months... Or make your own. If you make your own it can be very inexpensive. A local guy sells these (he uses a bioluminescent fungus I think - just because it is easy). But you could easily make your own...

    Red Phrags

I think the Rosalie Dixler clone was lost. And might have been tetraploid? Not sure about that. So the exact remake might be impossible. Sometimes a particular combination of clones is just magic and other grexes just suck. A remake has been attempted. I know because I tried. :) And I...

    Red Phrags

Fox valley fireball is one that I wish I had bought more flasks of... could have sold them by the ton. Sunset Magic is similar and sometimes throws a brilliant red with almost perfect form.

Paphiopedilum The Last Empress (just registered!)

Nice! Who was the original hybridizer? Wish I had room to bloom out the multiflorals I have deflasked the last few months...

    pronunciation

I just tell my students to say it with confidence. If someone corrects you just reply "well that's how _you_ say it". It really is a moving target. Different languages pronounce the same epithet differently and they are all correct. There is no official correct way to say them. The point is...

Phrag. Fritz Schomburg (besseae 'OZ Selected' x kovachii 'Full Moon’)

Probably the same cross. I took about 12. They weren't growing very well when I got them and they are still recovering. Might have one in spike but it hasn't been the best year of phrag growing for me. Took me until mid summer to figure out my chemistry was all wrong.

I think it is worth blooming again.

    Kovachii

    How much do you use?
  19. littlefrog

    Kovachii

I don't. I've always counted on media to buffer pH. I put a lot of oyster shell, etc in there. So if water was really acidic I was probably dissolving a lot of calcium and buffering it up a bit. I spent a lot of time with a calculator and making dilutions until I got the 'new' fertilizer...

    Kovachii

I don't know that it was pH (too acidic), but it is the only thing that tracks. Very gradual yellowing of leaves, not correctable with more nitrogen (I tried that). After I switched back to the pure water MSU fertilizer I slowly got my color back (over a few months), I'm not quite 100% where I...
