Can anyone speculate on what this may be caused by?

I've seen something similar in the past on Zygopetalum and Dinema, and written it off to fertility issues. Always seemed to clear up.

    Paph. Dollgoldi

My Dollgoldi sulked - not declining but not growing much at all - until I adjusted the fertilizer regime to include Urea. I'm planning to fill in the details soon in a new post - too much to outline here. Foliar feeding in the early morning with a 300 PPM N Urea solution, with a small dose of...

    Paph. delenatii question

I've always run all of our plants with higher light than is normally recommended. A methodology that has proved beneficial for most everything: Cattleya types, Mexican Laelias, Zygos, Australian Dendrobiums, Odontoglossums, Disa, Phrags, most Paphs and Cymbidiums. I do heavily shade...

    Paph. delenatii question

Thanks for the info. I maintain humidity at 65 to 80 percent - usually at the higher end - using an Aquafog TurboXE Fogger. We've had to rebuild it once but this unit is now just short of 30 years in service. So low humidity is not the issue.

    Paph. delenatii question

I need the observations of some of you experienced with growing Paph. delenatii. I grew this species in the early 90s, but my memory of that time with them is not particularly clear. This last winter I obtained three single growth seedlings - one “regular”, one var. album and one var. dunkel...

    New Zealand Tree Fern Fiber

Do you use rockwool for Brachys? I'm using it for Phrags and multifloral Paphs that need large pots with success. Seems that since Brachys resent frequent transplanting that using rockwool with largish pots might be a good solution.

How often and how much to water chrysanthemums?

In well drained soil it would be difficult to overwater.

plant import permits freak me out

I've imported plants, and with an import broker and proper paperwork all went well. The last time I did so was probably 10 years ago. The broker literally stood watch for the plants as they arrived at the airport, couriered rather than by post. He worked them through the inspections and...

    Paph Fair-Maud

I tend to like some of the oldies. This Fair-Maud just came into full flower today.

Short vs tall pots for Phrags

NYEric - how deep a tray? 3 or 4 inches is close to that of a bulb pan.

    Moss species for Phrag culture

It would be useful to create a list of moss species that have proved successful in orchid culture. Common names are just confusing. When researching Java Moss I came up with two names, Taxiphyllum barbieri and Vesicularia dubyana, the later being a possible misnomer. I bet there are other...

    Moss species for Phrag culture

Much appreciated, Tyrone. I used to have a shade house for Masdevallia and had random mosses growing on the surface of the pots. Seems easy to find online so I'll give this a try. This may be just what I am looking for. Thank you for your kind offer.

    Moss species for Phrag culture

Here ia a screen capture from the AOS seminar Jason Fischer did on Frags. He said this was like the conditions in the wild, where the roots are growing in and under mosses: It makes sense to me to have moss like this. Not so dense that it blocks water though. I water like a raincloud and...

    Moss species for Phrag culture

There are quite a few posts from folks who swear by the benefits of live moss growing on the top of the media for Phrags. A question: What species of moss have you found success with? There are a few "wild" mosses growing in my greenhouse, but to test the effects of live moss I'll need to...

Short vs tall pots for Phrags

I'm thinking of trying bulb pans. Everything is in clay pots, which help stabilize the heavy plants and cool the roots. I have a few 5", 6" and 8" clay bulb pans. Might be time for an experiment.

Short vs tall pots for Phrags

Phrag Bessie hybrids. I am leaning towards short and wide pots, to allow for a shallow, spreading root system.

Short vs tall pots for Phrags

Looking for opinions: Are short or tall pots more advantageous for growing mature Phrags? I asked three AI engines and got three answers. Best to stick to live intelligence for orchid cultural questions.
