    Shade cloth help!

I have a screen porch that faces west in Kansas and the green I bought doesn't do much to be honest. It was the cheapest I could find but the good thing is that it supposedly blocks some of the UV. I'm not sure what that would do for plants but I guess if you're going to spend a lot of time in...

Peatmoss plus perlite and more media

I occasionally buy a mix that has peatmoss, lavarock, charcoal, bark, and a bunch of other junk in it. Peatmoss can turn muddy but if you use just a small pinch broken up I think it's great. It always attracts those annoying fungus gnats though. I think you can sterilize it in a microwave but...

    Retraction! it's Paph Shin-Yi Angel

I like it. It does seem very upright. Maybe it either was staked up or grown under lights?

Not sure if it's the case with orchids but I think if a plant is double-flowered it's genetic. Like if you ever got divisions from it they'd be double-flowered.

    What do you think....

I see some issues with certain growths but not all of them. I wonder how hard they'd be to divide.

Roth flask fever (mild temperature reading)

You could hang a shelf from the ceiling for more space.

    Orchiata bark

There are a million combinations of mixes with moss, perlite, leca, whatever to try to mix in with Orchiata. I found some bonsai vendors sell great orchid growing materials- fine lava-rock, even fine forest bark that's not bad. A bit buggy for indoors though.

    Nice.

    Paph. rungsuriyanum primary crosses

Thaianum I think. VENUSTUm would be more interesting but it's already weird enough. In a good way though.

How long to keep germinating paph seeds in the dark ?

I think I heard that it's different for different plants.

    Advice for potential orchid businessperson

Probably depends what country you're from. In South America you can sell at markets but in the USA a lot is online. EBay seems like the easiest unless you have a store/greenhouse or know how to start a website.

    Orchid inn flasks

The p. Concolor X Thaianum seem great. I probably got about 20 plants in ten pots. I didn't have quite as much luck with the other two I tried but I'm not so into community pots.

    Brachypetalum flask success

I had some success with 2" square pots. Charcoal on the bottom.

    deflasked Paph Adductum

The temperature of the bulbs is one way to decide how high to put the lights. I even burned a cactus once with a halogen lamp.

Trying to save paph maduiea (red)

Plus I don't still have the plant. It did bubble and to something to the infected part but I wouldn't know how to measure the amount.

    Guess my budding Paph

Trying to save paph maduiea (red)

I've tried rescuing a plant in water. I asked for advice from some hydroponics growers and they suggested adding some hydrogen-peroxide to the water. I think it's only a temporary thing because the h-p just breaks down into oxygen and water in an hour or so.

    Orchid videos

I'm going to add some Paph. videos into a botany thing I do on the internet. I don't make money doing it it's just for entertainment. Mostly it's been about Mexican cacti but now I'm into orchids too. On YouTube the channel is called "Tonelero"

    Brown Rot?

Hmm I don't really have any better advice but I'd think they would have a better chance if they have good roots. Or at least they'd grow out new leaves faster I assume.

    Paph. primulinum var. purpurascens?

I doubt it's fallen out of favor I just think the pollen is a favorite to use on other plants.
