How Do You Combat Sugar Cravings?

Sugar substitutes in soda have been known to trigger sweet junk food cravings like this- your taste buds tell your brain to tell your stomach to get ready to process sugar because your taste buds have tasted something super sweet. When no sugar arrives after your body has prepared for it, it...

    Catasetum pileatum var. imperiale

Yea the flower longevity is not great, but I think that’s adds to the allure for me. A day or two of enjoyment never leaves time for you to grow tired of the flowers. Some paphs I catch myself muttering under my breath “just fall already!”

    Catasetum pileatum var. imperiale

lololol I grow outside in an open sided shade house when the lows stay above 60F. The plants are in hanging pots

    Catasetum pileatum var. imperiale

Yes, it's 'SVO Blood Red'. I bought a tiny piece from Stephen Moffitt two years back. Honestly I didn't know if it would survive. It didn't do much the first year. It rebounded nicely this year, until one night in July we had a terrible storm with 75mph sustained winds. Beat up all my plants...

    Another mini catasetum

Yes, smells like peppermint and eucalyptus. Mmm The tag number is 6526, which should have been (Fdk. Dark There After x ctsm. Orchidglade 'Davie Ranches')

    Another mini catasetum

Don't really know what to call it. I purchased it as a Fdk, then it bloomed female. I asked Fred, he said the whole cross got mixed up. He's pretty sure it's Ctsm. Extravaganza, which would explain the lip shape and small plant size. This is its 2nd spike this year with #3 not far from blooming...

    Catasetum macroglossum

Nice cultivar! Love the frilly lip and soft colors. The upright spiking habit is very showy. Well done

    Catamodes Dragon's Glade surprise

So I think this is the first time in the history of catasetinae intergenic breeding that an intergenic flower has shown signs of sexual dimorphism. Up until now all intergenic hybrids have had perfect (pollen and stamina) floral segments. Even some Fredclarkearas are more than 90% catasetum...

I've found the best way to transport is to bring a willing (or bribed) participant who doesn't mind getting pelted with pollen! Otherwise I try to set up a system with blankets and pillows. Styrofoam would be a good option. I would hang if it weren't for all the potholes!
