Phrag Inti's Tears 'Red Dagger' AM/AOS

    A well deserved award......that's a strong AM!

    Slippertalk Judging & Awards Proposal

This comes down to a photo contest.....despite opinions to the contrary, pictures aren't always an accurate view of the quality of a flower. Lighting, camera angle and photoshopping can all skew the perception. Nice idea, but keep in mind that creative, good photography as well as manipulation...

    Paphiopedilum trantuanii

You might note that all of the letters were in caps, not just the first one.... I wouldn't place any importance on that....

Phrag. Mem. Dick Clements x Petit Port

Very nice....looks a lot like Phrag Elizabeth Castle.

    paph Lippewunder X Lippewunder

Most of the recent siblings I have seen of Lippewunder have bloomed malformed like this one. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the F2 or F3, but after that recombination seems to be quite negative. I would hope your Valerie Tonkin would turn out okay, but obviously you won't know until they...

    P.gratrixiznum (Masters) Rolfe x niveum

That is a reference to the taxonomic reference for Paph gratrixianum. Rather unusual to show it in a hybrid cross.......without a reference to the reference to the other parent.

    Paph violascens & friends......

Paph violascens tends to have one blooming growth, a start and one dying growth. I have never seen a large clump of this species, has anyone else?

    Paph. Blushing Princess

The power of the delenatii grandparent is showing up strongly by turning the background colors to white from green/yellow.

    paphiopedilum forma glanzeanum

This is the formally described name for the albino version of Paph micranthum. The term album refers to white flowers only, not white and green flowers. Of course, it has been used incorrectly in the past. A good example of an album form is Paph delenatii album.

    How's the weather?

South of the city near the airport we had 8 inches of snow, followed by a lovely spell of freezing rain, then more snow. Trees are falling down and power lines are falling too.....Around 300,000 people without power. I had an 8 ft tall and 8ft wide rhododendren fall over today as the...

    How's the weather?

It is snowing now, about 6 inches so far....unusual for Seattle.

    Phrag. kovachii 'Morobamba'

Nice flower and plant.....my kovachii's have spikes but the spikes have stopped progressing. Is that something you have seen with yours or is it my particular problem? The inflorescenses are seemingly ready to bloom but the buds aren't forming. They have been in spike for several months.

    Phrag. longifolium??

The "petal" is actually the ventral sepal, and this isn't unusual particularly if the pouch doesn't bloom very large which seems the case with this one.

    Orchilla 'Chilton' FCC/AOS

A classic flower but there is no way that it was awarded an AM in 1971 and upgraded in 1931 unless time travel was involved.... In the AOS it was awarded an AM (86 points) in November 1971 and upgraded to an FCC(92 points) in January 1973.It also has multiple awards in Europe including the RHS...

Very nice shape and great balance.....

    Phrag Trudy Taylor

Well done, Chuck! the Phrag Taras parent seems to be dominant for color.

    Phrag Raquette Lake

Nice, it looks much like Phrag Don Wimber but of course the background is similar.

    Phrag. Barbara LeAnn

    Very nice, Tom....

Should I self the kovachii I just got awarded?

The plant has one relatively small growth that is flowering and a smaller older growth. That is it......Jerry has larger plants that have not flowered yet. Having seen the plant, it has a way to go before it is truly mature, perhaps a couple of years. Putting seed on it is not very prudent at...

    Two New kovachii hybrids

This might be possible with a backcross onto Jason Fischer.....There is nothing quite like the velvety red of a good JF.
