I went to a local orchid show this weekend and I bought....

Candace ... I was at the same show & did the same thing. I spent more time at the very nice exhibit than I did at the vendor booths, which is unusual for me. The Vandas & Vanda relatives in the exhibit were gorgeous. There were a lot of Paphs & high light plants at the vendor booths but not...

Orchid books: discuss and show your collection

Wow. Fred Hillerman - king of Angraecoid growers - lives about an hour from my house. I understand he's 92 or so but I hope to meet him - perhaps through the Sacramento Orchid Society.

Orchid books: discuss and show your collection

I'm a book collector and an orchid grower. While it may not do much for a slipper crowd, to an Angraecoid nut there's some juice in the following list: - Growing Orchids Under Lights – Charles M. Fitch - An Introduction to the Cultivated Angraecoid Orchids of Madagascar – Fred E. Hillerman...

    Our Mini Vacation to Tahoe

I was holding my breath but since no-one commented on the dog, I guess I will. We have a mini Dachshund "Willie" that's an integral part of the family routine. I've had other dogs but this one's hard to beat as a family dog. And I'm a cat man ... Great pics of Tahoe. We live right around...

I have the world's worst olefactory sense so I'm probably not the best source. I've tried to detect a fragrance - particularly at night - but get nothing of significance.

    looking for Tolumnia hybrids

I bought a number of them from Hawaiian Orchid Source at a show in Santa Barbara a few weeks ago. They don't have a functional webisite but an e-mail address is available. I bought quite a few nice little plants for cheap (like three for $10). Small but healthy.

Thanks for the welcome and the slipper support. It's not that I haven't tried ...just had bad luck. I've picked up a number of Paph hybrids along the way (past 10 years or so) but haven't made a single one happy in the long run. I'd written them off completely but have now changed my tune...

Mostly angraecoid but willing to waver ...

Greetings from California. Growing warm-hot, low-light, smallish plants that are tolerant of moderate humidity. Most of my plants are mounted angraecoids ... not that I don't like paphs & phrags ... but my luck with slippers has been less than stellar. I'm not willing to give up though, so...
