    Paph. philippinense var. album

I recently took the large-plant form of philippinense alba and the small-plant form of philippinense alba to a judging. Had a pillar of the growing and judging communities say out loud that they are the exact same plant, just different conditions. Never mind that I got them from 2 different...

    Paphiopedilum wenshanense

I had a striatum-type bellatulum that I named 'Sharpie' for its bold markings. Very similar to dodidoki's pic above. I gave a division to a friend years ago and she just posted it on FB - looks exactly the same.

    Paph moquetianum

Mine from Sam improved tremendously on the 2nd blooming - and it got an HCC the first blooming!

    Thaianum '#1' 2021

I've bloomed many, from different sources, and in my experience 50% or less are fragrant even from the same source. But when they are... awesome! :p

    Hairy Ho Chi Minh

Here in the south, HCM likes to bloom in June, when the shows/sales are over and the days are hot - they last a week or so, usually less. FWIW Paph. vietnamense blooms January - April and seems to last 2-3 weeks. HCM seems to have a fragile gossamer substance, will bruise if you look at it the...

    Micranthum

I wonder if the Parvi Paph are like a lot of Dendrobiums: while they come from areas with cool and dry winters, if you can't give them cool, you can fool them with dry. For example: Den aggregatum has been in catalogs for decades as 'intermediate-cool' BUT they grow giant monster plants with...

    Krull Smith

Slipper Symposiums are usually the 1st weekend in November.

    Micranthum

Hi Tom: Does the long super-dry period work for all Parvi Paphs? Some more than others? Only a small percentage of my Parvis bloom per year lately, so I'm thinking of increasing the length & severity of my dry rest period. Thanks, Bill

    Paph. malipoense

Interesting: I think of the smell as 'antique raspberry' or 'raspberry potpourri'. Raspberry plus something else.

    Flask of Wenshanense aureum

I think those were my breeding also. I just re-made NH with a 12cm malipoense; NH is one of my favorites! My running joke for a decade or more was "I want to breed Norito Hasegawa to everything in my greenhouse". Haven't seen Norito in many years, except for FB. Hope he is doing well

    Flask of Wenshanense aureum

No, but Thanh and I have collaborated on things for many years. His talents and interests are wide ranging, whereas mine are more narrow focused

    Flask of Wenshanense aureum

My breeding/seedpod. There have been 2 AOS awards from these so far.

    Liberty Taiwan

Story I heard is that the first LTs were made with huge & sometimes so-so shape hangianums; more recent ones are made with better shape but smaller hangianums. My acquisitions bear this out: early flasks had flowers up to 15cm-18cm; more recent plants have had 10cm-12cm flowers YMMV!

    Paphiopedilum gratrixianum.

Any 'trix' to growing/blooming Paph. gratrixianum? I have 4-5 plants and blooming is sporadic, if they bloom at all. Thanks in advance!

    Fairrieanum ‘Geishas of Japan’

My longest lasting Paph. flower was a P. fairrieanum that started in early December and finally crashed in mid-March. Hasn't done that since, I guess conditions were perfect for flower longevity that year!
