My Masdevallia guru, Tom Perlite, grows his wonderful plants in clay pots in sphagnum. The goal is to keep the pots damp in order to keep the roots as cool as possible. Masdevallias will suddenly drop leaves if they aren't happy. Leaf spotting is the first sign, followed by a rapid yellowing...

Bjorn, how many growths does the 20 yr old have? I would mercilessly divide it in several if it has more than four or five growths. I was given a megaplant of Prime Child that had never bloomed, kept if for a couple years intact, then divided it. Now the divisions bloom normally.

I'm envious! Beautiful results after all your years of patience! I have some and am excited that they are gradually picking up steam now - my adult plant is poking along, though. Only my seedlings are speeding up.

Good work! That's a really successful cross judging by this first bloom. We are all going to be waiting for the future photos of others! How many seedlings are you raising?

Nice flower, Gary! I have taken to planting the cochlos in baskets so that they can hang their long inflorescences down. I started with a glaucophyllum that has now been in the basket four years. I saw one with about ten growths once and that really inspired me.

The plant is stunning, the flowers are stunning! I want one!

I'm envious of any blooming kolo! My first rotted away. I now have a couple but neither is near blooming. Yours is great, Gary! How have you managed to amass 20? Long years of collecting?

I agree - a real darling! To Ross: is this in the same breeding line that produced the Wossner Zwerg plants you sold about three years ago? The form looks familiar.

I'm also in love with this flower. Great dorsals, especially! What is the original source? Who sold the plant originally, that is, and are there more where that came from?
