    World Orchid Conference 2024 Highlights

I was watching a video of the Taiwan show and found out the name of the vini hybrid!! It is Paphiopedilum Tristar Red Candle (Shun-Fa Web x charlesworthii) registered by Tristar in 2022. Shun-Fa Web is (Hsinying Web x Hung Sheng Bay).

Pictures from the Greater Akron Orchid Show

Beautiful!! I particularly like Dendrochilum (Coelogyne now?) glumaceum and Vandachostylis Azure (the tag is blurry, but I think this is what it is?) and would love to have them of that size in my room hehe.

    World Orchid Conference 2024 Highlights

Ummm some of them have a name tag where we can see what's written on it, though ;) Hangianum is so obvious with or without the tag shown in the photo. There is no hangianum album by the way. The leaves alone indicate it has either parvi or brachy influence. The flower shape is actually quite...

    Clowesia Rebecca Northen

Yeah, I like the darker pink ones better but they seem harder to find now. I regret for not getting some of the remakes that were offered eariler this year or last year. I got a remake of Grace Dunn instead. It will be similar but almost quarantined to be white in bloom.

    Pecteilis (Habenaria) radiata

When I had mine, I had them on a shallow pan or small pots and so they fit in the fridge nicely. I kept the whole thing undisturbed for years like this with great results. I know some people prefer to take the corms out at the end of the season and keep them in the moistened sphagnum moss inside...

    Paphiopedilum glanduliferum at Show

My observation is the same with what Tony has pointed out.

    Daily temperature differentials

As long as you don't have a heater in the room, there would naturally be day/night temperature difference. The difference might actually be greater in the winter than any other season. Especially true for me on sunny winter days. The problem is that it gets too warm during the midday. So for...

    Paphiopedilum glanduliferum at Show

In less than a second, one should recognize that this is not a species. It's just so obvious. I don't know how else to say it.

Should I repot before winter really kicks off?

If your winter is warm, as in indoor growing, then, it doesn't really matter when you repot the plant.

    Paph Fumi’s Delight

My Magic Lantern (a few over the years) all lasted good one month. Micranthum was all over the place but I would say 2-4 weeks. Armeniacum is reported to have lasted almost 3 months. Probably possible in cooler temperature with high humidity. I don't know what the norm is but mine lasted for...

    Paph Fumi’s Delight

SVO has lots of very nice FD in their greenhouses. I don't think they are up for sale, though.

    Paph Fumi’s Delight

I agree. I have had the same issues with Fumi's Delight and armeniacum. No problem growing and setting buds on them, but they will easily blast after sitting low for months or just as the buds start to grow larger. But then, I don't have the proper conditions for them. I just torture them I...

    Daily temperature differentials

It is important to all plants. In the wild, there naturally exists day & night temperature differences. Many orchids occur at well over sea levels and the temperature differentials between day and night are even greater. It mainly has to do with converting and storing energy (ATP into complex...

    Paphiopedilum fairrieanum 'Ellis's Emeralds' CCM/AOS

At least it looks to be a good grower & bloomer! :)

    Cattleya warscewiczii

    Beautiful!!

    Psychopsis papilio var. aureum

The question is, would a sibling cross of a selfing still a better option than a repeated selfing?

    Catasetum pileatum 'Oro Verde'

Lovely!! I thought this species is a summer bloomer. By the way, how common/easy is it to find Catasetums and Cycnoches in Germany?
