    Phrag. Dreamsicle 'Peach Dream'

Very pleasing colour! I like it.

    London Orchid Show

The name depends on which source you go by, unfortunately! I knew this one as Pleurothallis ornata (Syn. Effusiella ornata Luer 2007 or Stelis ornata (Rchb. f.) Pridgeon & M.W. Chase 2001). But IOSPE doesn't have the photo I would expect under that name...

I got.... and and a few Lepanthes. The only slipper I got was a kalinae.

What are you growing your phrags in?

Mine are actually in large rockwool cubes with a top dressing of small bark chips. This means they need to be repotted each year, but with the young seedlings that I've got, that's a good thing anyway as they seem to put out a growth spurt after repotting. I will have to consider the best...

    London Orchid Show

Thanks very much! (I love your photography, so your comment means a lot!) I think that was a great way of showcasing the hybrid. You can see just how much of an improvement it is from both of its parents. Quite educational.

    London Orchid Show

Here are some of the photos from the RHS London Orchid Show last weekend. This one won best species grown by an amateur: One of the Paph. vietnamense: A display of vietnamense with HCM: hangianum on the left, with armeniacum on the right, and their hybrid, Wössner China Moon...

    Lepanthopsis astrophora--Tiny! Tiny!

That's one great 'Stalky'!! I have one of these, and it just keeps growing kiekis. Maybe I need to make the light stronger? I went a bit mad last weekend and came home with more little Lepanthes and mini Pleurothallis to keep this one company!

Paph. primulinum / Pinocchio / Avalon Mist (Again)

Yes, I would expect the staminode to be consistent in line bred species. A good reason to think that mine is not really primulinum. Thanks for all of the help guys!

Paph. primulinum / Pinocchio / Avalon Mist (Again)

Looking through past threads here, I think mine matches Avalon Mist most closely (though I still think its a good form for whatever it is....) in terms of colour, size, and staminode shape. And yes, it is also my understanding that the type form of primulinum is the 'album' version - a freak...

when you think it's malipoense, but it's not...

In your second photo, the substance of the flower looks like it has picked up something from armeniacum, too. All in all, a very nice flower!

Paph. primulinum / Pinocchio / Avalon Mist (Again)

Thanks for the additional information! I think the debate can (and probably will) go on for quite a long time, but do think that there are so many mislabelled plants out there that its nearly impossible to be completely sure whether something is an improvement due to line breeding, or a hybrid.

Paph. primulinum / Pinocchio / Avalon Mist (Again)

The bottom of the staminode on mine is tapered to a point like a shield. It isn't as square along the bottom as the one in the IOSPE photo. So, I guess more weight to the theory that its a hybrid and not the species.

    Paph hainanense

I'm game for an auction for the EU, so that makes two of us. Anyone else? The flash washed out some of the darker pink colour on the petals in the photo, and dorsal doesn't look quite as green to the naked eye, but its a pretty close approximation of what the colours really are. Thanks...

Lost tag - in spike - any ideas?

Thanks, Rick! You are probably right that it is more complex than a primary cross. Whatever it is, though, it doesn't appear to have been too successful. Though I will keep the plant to see if any of the other flowers improve in colour and form.

    London Orchid Show

LOL! I will definitely have fun, Wendy. We're staying up in London overnight so that I can be there for the 10AM start on Sunday. Too many Londons, eh? Maybe I should always refer to it as the "RHS London Orchid Show"!

Paph. primulinum / Pinocchio / Avalon Mist (Again)

Thanks, Fren! Dot, I was under the impression that there are a lot of mislabelled (and even some 'mis-awarded' primulinums that are actually hybrids. I think its a case of being overly sceptical on my part? But when I've seen a 'real' primulinum, it was quite a lot smaller and definitely a...

    Cyp Maria

Hi Kevin, I'm in the South of England (and Spring is definitely here - ornamental cherries are in bloom, daffodils, the snowdrops and crocus have already finished) but I got these plants as a Christmas present this winter, so there wasn't a chance to plant them outside. They are in pots on my...

    Paph. moquettianum x delenatii

That's a pretty one, Dot! I like the very delicate colouring. (And I prefer the 2nd photo's view... ;) )
