Dehydrated near rootless P sanderianum seedling

Update: added kelp extract to watering regimen, lost largest bottom leaf. After knocking it out of the pot accidentally today, found another black shriveled root tip, so the growth rate is just one root per month. Existing roots unaffected. It seems like anything sanderianum related has these...

    P. Regine Plows (Shin Yi Pride x Wossner Black Wings)

Hybrid registered in 2022 by Fred, who I got this one from today. Not exactly the healthiest plant but I absolutely love the flowers. Dorsal is 4.5 cm and flowers are the size of my hand!

    Team paph or phrag

    1. Paphs hands down, phrags are a pain to grow for me especially here in sunny hot SoCal. I have an Lyneigh Koopowitz in bloom right now. 2. Sanderianum hands down again, despite being a pain to grow. I'm not a fan of how bulky roth is as a flower, but it is objectively better as a breeding...

Dehydrated near rootless P sanderianum seedling

The mature one is being kept at room humidity (30% average), overwintered with temps ranging from 58 minimums. The thing seems to be doing well, just prone to soft rot if watered too often. Thankfully I caught it fast enough to stop it from progressing.

Dehydrated near rootless P sanderianum seedling

The thing is pushing out a new leaf but I'm still not seeing any root growth which worries me. I placed a layer of sphagnum on top burying the seedling further two weeks ago, we shall see. My mature sanderianum is starting to push out some root tips but I'm afraid it might abort like my other...

    Phyton 27 on Seedlings

I got a bunch of tiny seedlings coming in soon and I don't have physan on hand, I was wondering if phyton 27 could be used on 1" Cattleya seedlings instead at a diluted strength.

What is your favorite orchid? Lets have some fun

Favorites: too many and I go through many cycles, but general groups are multifloral paphs, cattleya species/primaries, lepanthes/dracula, and angraecoids. If I had to choose specific plants from my current collection, my mature highway robbery SVO Paph. sanderianum, my stupidly heat tolerant...

    Wanted angraecum sesquipedale

Norman's Orchids at orchids.com should have some in stock. His plants in person at the nursery were in bud and healthy when I went back in November and he had plenty of them.

Dehydrated near rootless P sanderianum seedling

I've been dealing with this near rootless P. sanderianum seedling I received from Sam and I forgot to water it one day beforehand. The leaves became somewhat wrinkly, the bottom leaves have become droopy, and it has not grown a single root in the three months that I've had it. I've cut watering...

After 40 years - rethinking my place in the world of orchids

I didn't do a good look of what was said beforehand on this thread, all I can say is I just don't like the AOS judging standards, especially for Cattleya alliance plants. My eyes might just snap off my optic nerve the next time I hear "Isn't this flower so beautiful? Its a perfect circle!" from...

    P. sanderianum rot issue

Hi everyone, I'm encountering some rot on the basal leaves of a new growth on a recently acquired P. sanderianum that recently popped up somewhat simultaneously with our rains outside in Los Angeles. I already removed one small leaf at the base that was mostly rotted, removed clear watery...

    Help with choosing artificial lighting

I would second mars hydro for growing orchids, though I'm not sure if they're available in Europe. I've flowered Phrag. humboldtii under the TS600 model around 2ft away from the lights though the tip of the flower stalk was burned off so keep that in mind.

    Images of Paph Larry Cox?

Does anyone have any further images of this hybrid? I'm debating on purchasing either this or a WBW from Sam before he runs out of them. I know one member has bloomed one of Sam's plants but I'm not sure if anyone else has.

    Hello from Los Angeles!

Hi everyone! Long-time orchid grower here but recently delving into Paphs, mostly multiflorals such as sanderianum, adductum var anitum, and others. Speaking of sanderianum, here's one generously sold to me by Fred Clarke of SVO. This is one of Sam's crosses done 20+ years ago, 'Red Spider' x...
