How Expensive can Paphs get, and what drives the price up?

Very interesting, thanks...... I shudder to think how much money I’ve burned on plants that either died or that I just gave up on after years of failing to thrive. I keep everything I can until I run out of space then I start to cull....That’s why I, for the most part, only go after paphs, and...

How Expensive can Paphs get, and what drives the price up?

Thanks for the responses! 10k for a Roth division. Just....Wow. And paying 36k for a phal. in the 80’s is crazy, but the “this is the only one on earth” part of it certainly explains why. I used to work in the art world, so I guess it shouldn’t come as that much of a shock to me, since a “bad”...

How Expensive can Paphs get, and what drives the price up?

The most I have seen online currently is around $1,000usd. If there are buyers willing to pay that based on photos, I have to imagine they’re willing to pay much more in person. So what is the current ceiling on what a Paph can cost? What are the primary factors? I’m guessing some...

I have one that’s about to bloom for the first time as well. Even if they aren’t great the first time around it’s still always exciting, to me at least.

Decisions on Tap Water vs Rain and fertilizer

That’s very helpful, thanks man! I’m moving to rain water, so if I understand correctly, this fertilizer lacks the calcium and magnesium usually found in tap water, so that’ll result in deficiencies, eventually. I’m either going to switch to k-lite or MSU. I may actually do both since I have a...

Decisions on Tap Water vs Rain and fertilizer

Sorry, Ray. Thanks for your patience. They recommend one teaspoon per gallon. So, I use 1/4 tsp. every third watering. So that should be volume per gallon at least? The only other thing maybe worth mentioning is that the 20N is comprised of 8% ammoniacal nitrogen, 12% nitrate nitrogen. That's...

Decisions on Tap Water vs Rain and fertilizer

Hey Ray - thanks for the response. I definitely agree with you regarding the relative importance of fertilizer. I learned that long ago with gardening and other tropicals. If you get the other elements right fertilizing becomes a matter of just not screwing it up. Your questions - I grow all of...

Decisions on Tap Water vs Rain and fertilizer

So I’ve been reading a good bit about all of the factors involved in nutrients and water chemistry, and more I dive into it the more confused I become! Some advice would be very much appreciated! What I am after is a fertilizer and water regimen that I can apply to all of my paphs and phrags -...

    Favorite Parvi or Brachys Hybrid?

Hi - long time reader, finally got around to registering so I can post. Many, many thanks for all the info I’ve found on here. I’ve been growing a few paphs for years, but for some reason in the last year I became totally, utterly (alarmingly? My wife says yes.) obsessed to the exclusion of...
