    s/h growers another repotting question

something I've done with plants that weren't actively growing when I got them is just pot them in a normal pot in primeagra. They require watering every 1-2 days that way, but stay a lot dryer than s/h. I figure this is a transition phase, subject to conversion to s/h later, once they're...

What is this phrag? It's not the "grande" I was sold

I should dig up the strongly worded email I sent them last fall...it resulted in them replacing a plant at their expense without me having to return the defective one. but I'm still never buying anything from them again. too many problems on multiple levels.

    Photoshop tips?

if you have CS2, one of the best features to use is highlights/shadows. I use it on almost every picture I take. Almost every picture gets the levels adjusted too. I do it manually if it's a good picture, auto-levels if it's just a snapshot. for the most part though I try to leave the...

What is this phrag? It's not the "grande" I was sold

I've had a number of problems with plants from Hauserman's, including mislabelled plants. They have been good about replacing things, even a long time after purchase. So I would definitely contact them if I were you. Your phrag is pretty though, even if it's not what was advertised.

    Scott's modest slipper collection

they are growing just as you see them in the picture. I use the lowii and the Landmark to shade the two mottled-leaf paphs, and the longifolium gives a little shade to the other phrags as well. the window faces south. there's a building across the street that blocks the light during the...

    Scott's modest slipper collection

Paph lowii spike progress...not too much longer! Paph Landmark 4 Phrags on the left, 4 Paphs on the right. 2 of each in spike at present. Not too bad! They are: Phrag longifolium, La Vivace Epicure Phyllis D Turner, besseae, and Cape Sunset Paph Landmark, Vert x Treasure...

    My first blooming besseae

now I'm all anxious for mine to bloom...I bought the exact same cross from Rob a couple months ago, but mine's still pretty small. maybe next year...

Art in 9 minutes? You be the judge. Amazing

I went to a lecture back in college that was given by a military illustrator, the topic of which was the difference between illustration and art, and a brief history of military art and illustration. his conclusion was that illustration was only meant to convey the specific idea or concept...

    Phrag longifolium

Mine (that you sold me) just dropped it's second bloom, and a third is on the way. it looks every bit as good as yours--love those twisty petals!

    s/h watering practices

that won't be an issue, at least for the time being...I just took a look at the credit card bill from last month... :(

    s/h watering practices

I have a 20 minute morning ritual involving carrying any plant which is in need of water to the sink, pouring fertilizer on it, and then returning it to its place. I have about 30 total plants, which makes this ritual possible. most of my plants are in s/h, but I have a few which are still in...

    Leaf? Sheath? Something else?

an update...the one on the lowii turned out to be a sheath after all. definitely not a leaf like I thought previously. the other one is a leaf though. I posted this picture in another thread, I'm just bumping this one.

    They're not Sophronitis anymore!

is this article accessible somewhere online? and can we hear Dr Braem's comments on it? I'm interested to know why they were moved, especially as I thought they had just been moved into sophronitis recently.

    Natural Treatment for Bacterial Infection.

hmm...what's interesting is that a tree in the same genus is used to make another medicinal compound, croton oil (from Croton tiglium). It is one of the chief ingredients in chemical peels used by plastic surgeons as one of many facial rejuvenating procedures.

    paphiopedilum anti-wrinkle cream...

I would be very inclined to think that an allergy to ubiquinone is quite rare, if not unheard of. Ubiquinone got its name because it's ubiquitous, as in, found in every living cell. If you were to be allergic to that, I would think the consequences would be deadly. now, minor skin...
