Thanks for all the replies. I have on hand a mix I got from Kelleys Korner that consists of fine sphagnum moss, fine fir bark, perlite and charcoal. I think I'll try that.

I use R/O water because we have a water softener; I can't use water from the tap. I use weak K-Lite about once a week and once a month use KelpMax when watering. But the water in the saucer is pure water. Maybe once a month I use an extra CalMag supplement.

Since a new growth has started does that mean I will not get a flower spike?

Another beginner question Hi. My Phrag. Emma Lommen has a new growth down near the base of the plant, above the oldest leaf. Is this where new growth starts from or is this where a flower spike starts from?

Welcome from New York EcoNative! I'm a newbie and I'm learning a lot from this site. I'll be getting some Cypripedium Gisela's this spring from the Gardens at Post Hill.

Humidifier It's a single room humidifier I got at RiteAid. My TDS of the R/O water is 0 ppm. I have about a dozen orchids so it is sufficient at raising the humidity. I just wasn't sure about the R/O water causing problems with the humidifier.

Hi! I've been using distilled water for my in-room humidifier. What would happen if I used R/O water instead?
