    Cattleya trianae and percivalliana

It wasn’t that hot in Cornwall this summer but the plants did get long days under the LED lights and temperatures in the mid twenties. Growth was good. Plenty of plants made two successive growths. I think I still need to play around with the conditions in the growth room just to optimise it...

Cattleya Bob Betts 'White Lightning' finally awarded - AM

Good news! I’ll amend my label.

    Cattleya trianae and percivalliana

Terry, who knows with my conditions? I am cutting down the lighting and the night temps lows are approaching 15c when it’s cold so hopefully things will be back to more normal flowering times next year.

    laelia dawsonii var. chilapensis

Istavan, a very interesting article. Maybe one for the splitters rather than the lumpers?
  5. monocotman

    Cattleya trianae and percivalliana

This trianae is the one that I featured last year as a four year demonstration of bloom changes and improvements. It’s continued to grow with four new pseudobulbs this season, three of which and flowering. Chadwick writes “But it is the many delicate pastel shades of color that set C. trianaei...

    laelia dawsonii var. chilapensis

Interesting Istavan. How does it differ from regular anceps?

    Paph Anne Boleyn Another Clone

    Very nice shape and colour!

Phrag Lovely Lynne 4n x sib blooming thread

Terry, there are not enough climbers thankfully to make a meaningful assessment of this. Just three or four. The ‘worst’ climber has nice very flat reddish flowers. This is clone 1. Just about ok but unlikely to be a keeper in the long run.

    Sophronitis Arizona

Beautiful! I bet it’s a bit easier to grow than the straight species!

    cattleya labiata rubra

Very full flower! Do you know the parents?
  11. monocotman

    insigne sanderianum

    Nice! No spots.
  12. monocotman

    Cattleya labiata coerulea ‘Anja’

This must be its third flowering and it’s the best by a long way. Some of the other bloomings have been quite poor by comparison.

Phrag Lovely Lynne 4n x sib blooming thread

Interesting thought! There isn’t any sort of correlation between the pigmentation of the plants and the colour of the flowers in this grex.

It may be more Terry, at least for this year. You never know what the quality will be like in the unflowered seedlings. So far, about a third seem to be really nice. I’ve sold on four so far to the local orchid society.

Phrag Lovely Lynne 4n x sib blooming thread

A couple more have opened this week. The first is clone 25, a smallish(10cm) bloom. Probably not a keeper. Next is a decent one, clone 5, with a 12 cm flower. Neither of these is up to the quality of clone 8.

Phrag Lovely Lynne 4n x sib blooming thread

The flower has matured on clone 8. This indoor photo is closer to the actual colour. For a first bloom, it’s big at 12.5cm wide and 5 cm wide petals, despite not being fully flat. Definitely a keeper!

    Cattleya eldorado ‘Mt Ito’

David, thanks for all this extra information. So it is now possible that Mt Ito is within the range of variation from recent breeding work in this species in South America and Japan. Good to know!

    cattleya labiata

    Love it! Great form!
