    Kovachii

Congratulations! What’s not to love about blooming one’s kovachii? Sweet victory is yours.

    Paphiopedilum intaniae

I got a flask of these from Sam, near the end of days. They are growing super slowly, so I am not sure whether I will get them to blooming size. Gonna try! You have inspired me!!

    Phragmipedium Acker's Rose River

This is a really fun cross. I got a flask of these, too. I have shared most of them as part of my Phrag fan folly. What I like the most is that many of them bloom with an impossibly plump, deep rose-red pouch, that complements the two-tone petals nicely. Many have also had a heavily hooded...

Phrag Lovely Lynne 4n x sib blooming thread

I am sooo jealous! I hope the Fischers make some of their polyploid kovachii hybrids available to us over here one of these days. Of course, congrats to you, David, for your outstanding culture. Your plants were lucky to find the right home.

    Rosemary surprise

I love my rosemary, too - definitely hedgelike. My flowers are paler than your pretty lavender ones. I am going to lose it as part of a renovation project, but I am hoping I can propagate a piece or two. Yes, I know I could easily get a new one, but I am rather sentimental about plants.

    Phragmipedium Ouaisne ‘James’

We took this plant in for judging by the HOS (Honolulu Orchid Society) judges yesterday, and they gave it an AM. This is from a Chuck Acker flask a few years back. It is growing under shade cloth, open to the rain, in an area with good air flow. My phrags have a love/hate relationship with...

    Phragmipedium besseae var dalessandroi

I have come across one of Olaf’s books: Phragmipedium, Mexipedium, Selenipedium. 2019. (Orchideenzauber Sonderausgabe 10). 650 col. photogr. 144 p. 4to. Hardcover..- In German. I think there might be an expanded or second edition published in 2021, list on the same website. Unfortunately, I...

    Phragmipedium besseae var dalessandroi

Hi Alex, I hesitate to weigh in here, but I think you have this backwards. I refer you to the Sept. 2020 article in Orchids (the AOS magazine) by Olaf Gruss (who, along with Dodson, published the original article describing Phragmipedium dalessandroi as a separate species, in Orchidee (Hamburg)...

    The new grow room

I love crazy orchid people - almost as much as I love orchids! That is devotion. Very cool!!

    The new grow room

Hi David, I love it! How are you watering your Catts? It looks like an engineered wood floor. Amazing.

    Spectacular plant! Well done.

    SLUGS!!

I HATE them too! Argh!!! We have those giant brown African snails in my neighborhood. Sometimes I will get up in the middle of the night, with a flashlight, latex gloves, and a ziplock bag. They hiss at me when I pick them up. At least they are big enough to see. Argh!!!

    Phragmipedium Devil Fire ‘Pacific Heights’

Yes, the flask came from Chuck Acker. The Devil Fire hybrid (Grande x humboltii) was registered in 2000 by D. Pulley, who I believe was Dr. Doug Pulley, a respected grower somewhere in the vicinity of Santa Clara, CA.

    Cattleya purpurata

Robert-Jan Quené posted a thread awhile back (from MN) saying that he was going to be raising cyps. I was interested because my mom lives in northern WI (and my husband and I keep a cottage across the lake from her). I think he said he would be on facebook (I’m not), but if you can track that...

    Phragmipedium Devil Fire ‘Pacific Heights’

My long-petaled flasklings are finally starting to bloom (it’s probably me, not them). This picture was taken (by Mel Waki) before the top flower matured, but I am happy to see their first flowers (deflasked 2019).

    Cattleya gigas Hector

    Wow - I love it!

    Piping Rock new owner

Pete, You may be right, but I can tell you there are major cost barriers in shade-house land, too, at least in Hawaii. Land prices, regulations, sky-rocketing utility costs, and high taxation make any sort of ag business difficult, particularly the orchid biz. We have lost many, many legacy...

    For Sale My Phrag. Cardinale

It’s a wonderful plant! (I have a couple myself.) All of your customers will be happy.

    Cattleya purpurata

Hi Bob, Yes. I took a whole car full. Catts, Dens (ranging from a little mimiense to a Violet Yamaji), Phrags, Bullbs, a couple of little Paphs, and a teeny tiny Macroclinium. No merit awards, but I think we got two or three ribbons. It was HOS (not AOS) judging and there were so many great...
