Bc South Miami and maybe best deal of year

None during the day, but very faint after the sun goes down. It is not a typical nodosa fragrance. Mike

Bc South Miami and maybe best deal of year

This is C harrisoniana alba x B nodosa 4n, purchased from Hausermann's in bud for only $8. The plants are fairly small, but the flowers are 13 cm ns. Nodosa hybrids grow like weeds for me and they don't seem to care much about variations in temperature or watering. Mike

    These are thrips, aren't they.

Not 100% sure because they seem to be too large. Are they fast? Thrips always impressed me with how fast they moved. Mike

    Paph Bryce Larkin

I still have this plant and 2 others. This particular plant will not be blooming this year, but the other two will, and I believe it will be the first time for both. Mike

    Spider mite damage??

I agree. I monitor plants closely with a microscope and I never see mites on phrags. It is very interesting see the variety of critters on paphs under a scope such as broad mites, several species of spider mites, juveniles of both, discarded exoskeletons, and predators, but never on phrags. I...

    RO filter water pressure.

I used softened water to supply my RO filter at 60 psi and collect the output in a 30-gallon drum, not a pressure tank, so I get the full 60 psi drop across the membrane. My RO water is less than 5 ppm dissolved solids. Mike

does this look like a virus?

Well, now you have some choices to make. You can test everything, toss the infected plants, develop an effective barrier strategy and spend a lot of money, or you can toss all sickly plants and assume that everything else is either infected or could easily be infected. In either case, the way...

My most prolific orchid, Ascda. Su-Fun Beauty

Quick questions, I see that you are 5-6 hours north of me. What kind of temps and light does this plant get? How large is it? I do like the color. Mike

Brassavola Little Stars (nodosa x subulifolia)

This is a fast growing, robust hybrid. Doesn't seem to care if it is too hot or dry, and doesn't suffer if I skip a watering or two. The plant in the attached photo was just 4-5 small clumps three years ago. I believe this is a 3-gallon nursery container. I'm sure you will be happy with this...

    Dinotefuran

Used Alpine recently on some persistent mealy bugs on paphs. Best insecticide I have ever used. It killed them immediately and completely. They never came back and no damage of any sort to the plants. I sprayed and then drenched the medium. Used inside the greenhouse only with mask, gloves...

    Paph concolor alba

You may be correct. I've not been very careful or accurate with the name. I just used the label on the flask. Thanks. Mike

    Paph concolor alba

Out of a flask from OI. Parents are "Albino Beauty" x "Albino Yellow Bird". Small plant, small flower, slow grower. Petals are 3.2 cm long, but since not flat, the NS is just 5.3 cm. It is a healthy plant with good roots, so I will likely keep it, but suspect it won't bloom again for three...

Quick question, is it just a layer of cubes on top? Thanks. Mike

    Specimen plant re-potting?? Ginormous Phalaenopsis!

In my opinion, it needs to be repotted. Looks like it is in moss, so get some of the best long strand you can find. Trim dead roots and any lower damaged leaves. I would try using a 6-inch pot, if you can fit the roots without breaking them. I would expect the plant to continue growing...

    Source for Orchiata

Anyone know where I can purchase Orchiata in large quantities? In the past, a society member would drive down and pick up a load at Arcadian Supply, in order to get better prices. I had been thinking about making a trip myself, but their website is down and the domain name is for sale. Purchased...

    Oncidium Jiaho Queen "Jiaho"

I am including a better photo of this plant. Didn't realize the first was out of focus. Mike

    another roth

It is from Sam. The number is PAS0733. I have one more of these, but pretty sure it's not going to bloom this year. Mike

    another roth

This is roth "New Gigantic" x "X-Hot" growing in a 6-inch pot with Orchiata + perlite. This is a first bloom seedling from OI, purchased in "22. The flower measures 26cm across and the dorsal is 5.5cm wide. It has just two flowers on this first bloom, but the plant has only six leaves with a...

    Oncidium Jiaho Queen "Jiaho"

This clone has a GM/TOGA and, I believe, an FCC/AOS. I purchased it two? years ago with just a few flowers, but it grows like a weed and this year it has 29 flowers. Individual flowers measure about 4 x 5 cm. I cannot capture in a photo how dramatic this display of flowers is. It grabs your...

    hangianum x leucochilum

This is hangianum "Justin" x leucochilum "Yamaguchi Black" first bloom seedling growing in 5 inch pot with Orchiata. I don't recall where I got it, but the tag indicates it was first repotted in 2017. I've seen photos of some a little larger and another with a stronger yellow background, but I...
