    Repotting... (But not really)

yes, we have seen this with the paphs...most seem to absolutely love a repot. many have started blooming nearly immediately after.

    pollinating some paphs!

thanks merc! each time we are trying to improve on visuals, but getting the stigma and showing the pollinia actually going on there, well that's a whole other thing im trying to figure out :( yes, we like to give periodic updates of our pollination attempts, just cause its nice to see how the...

Question on Paph Flowering time and pollen harvesting

ah, well then yeah, being that old a flower it is probably that it was nearing the end of its life anyway, so taking the pollen may have just forced it to quit! but again, somebody who actually grows Roths would have a better idea how long they typically last. not sure how you would check for...

Question on Paph Flowering time and pollen harvesting

well we've only been trying to breed them for a couple years, so maybe pulled pollen from a dozen flowers. so far we haven't seen them drop just from harvesting pollen. but we don't have roths , and my hunch would be that it is both genetics combined with culture that is causing it. no idea...

    Paph. Liemainum

howdy! I don't normally post responses here, but since you are a fellow michigander (ok, i moved away, but still), and we have conditions similar to yours, and we have our liemianum in bloom right now....i suggest the following: semi-hydroponics. honestly, with paph species in living room...

    paph. parishii

maybe in the future, but not this time around! and we don't show or try to get awards for our orchids. also maybe in the future tho....

    paph. parishii

yeah, it sort of opened. but its stalled now and definitely still need to dial in our culture for the plant!

    paph. parishii

yes, but we also like our living space!! :) joking aside, i regretted trying to spike it. hopefully it'll bloom again sometime and we will let it go naturally.

    paph. parishii

really happy that the parishii finally bloomed! we nearly lost it but it seems to have come back...hopefully it keeps getting back on track. it only has opened 3 of the 4 flowers it tried to make :( we tried to get decent, true color images, and as much of the plant as we wanted, hehehehe

    Wanted Flasks in europe?

yes, we were as well. if you want to send me a pm, we could send you a contact who is a private, non-retail lab. perhaps he would flask for you, but i can't speak for him. while our germination is so far nil, it is not his fault! he gives regular updates and sends pictures and such. nice...

    paph. bellatulum

ha! well, good photographers can do both! its enough effort for me to focus stack the flower (imperfectly, to boot), and my computer hates me already. in the future i want to do more exposure blending, but for now you will just have to imagine what the leaves look like!!! :)

    paph thaianum

hey katzen, yes, we would like to get there and not have to destroy the flowers. how can you see if you got the pollen in the right spot? is it just by feel and experience? thanks!

    paph thaianum

well, as a shameless plug (i hope its ok on here), and to update this thaianum thread, it bloomed with like only 2 leaves this year...i guess that's good? here is the screenshot of the vid on our channel if wanna see it get the pouch chopped off :) if some of you gurus would care to check it...

    paph. bellatulum

ahh, the devil's always in the details i suppose! also these plants that Wichmann has (where we got it and what is shown on their site) has this frill to the petals which i don't see on other examples. also, these seem t express more yellow than others, especially in the pouch and staminode...

    paph. bellatulum

hahah, do people actually care about the foliage?! just kidding :) well, the leaves are quite dark and I didn't feel like trying to blend shots to show it. if I metered for the foliage then the flower is super blown out and overexposed, so I chose the flower instead!

    paph. liemianum

im curious if anyone has had petals that form/grow weird as a result of having directional light on the plant when it is in bud? I think this waving flower is because I turned the plant slightly before opening and the light was coming strongly from one side. but, let us know if you think that...
