    Cattleya trianae 'Cashen's' FCC/AOS

Alright, here's the story. Before I begin, I want to say that the plants that C & H has been offering are F1 (First Generation) mericlones from their division of the original awarded plant and all that I have seen bloom have been very high quality. Also, 'Cashen's' is a confirmed tetraploid...

    C. Nancy Off '1290'

Yes, NEslipper has a piece of trianae alba `Broomhills' from Plato Matthews and i'm getting a piece from Dave Off. As far as I know they all have CyMV. Edithiae alba `White Empress' FCC/RHS has been tightly held in a few private collections. They were both prized stud plants at H. Patterson &...

    C. Nancy Off '1290'

The clone used was C. Edithiae alba `White Empress' FCC/RHS and it is a proven 3N. now, weather it was a spontaneous polyploid, or if it came from Suzanne Hye, or trianae `Broomhills', or both I don't know. NEslipper may know if `Broomhills' is polyploid. I think most Bow Bells were polyploid...

Cattleya trianaei 'Cashen's' FCC/AOS is blooming

Well, I suspect you're feeding it beef & potatoes. -Patrick

    C. Nancy Off '1290'

The RHS has a painting of the FCC Suzanne Hye, and it's not a great thing, with floppy petals and a very thin spike, but it bred white and was extremely fertile. -Patrick

    C. Nancy Off '1290'

Terry, I think you're mistaken, Black & Flory was not responsible for the creation of the Suzanne Hye that was used to make Cattleya Bow Bells. instead, they used the FCC/RHS variety, from the original grex, registered by Hye in 1906. it recived it's FCC in 1908. back then many awarded plants...

    C. Nancy Off '1290'

I think the best variety of Nancy Off, other than `Linwood', is `640' which is now called `Maria', named for Scott & Nancy Off's daughter. One to keep your eye out for. Very full flowers, not as flat as Linwood but a bit larger.

Rlc. Ranger Six ‘A-Ok’ (orig. Waldor) very different blooms over a year of 3 bloom times.

I'm guessing the reason this one has such a special lip, is because, unlike most of the other old whites, this one has Brassovola digbyana (Rhyncholaelia digbyana) in the background. -Patrick

    C. Tiffin Bells 'Orchidglade' AM/AOS

Some interesting information you and others might not know, is that variety 'Orchidglade' came from Jones & Scully's remake of the grex. They used (White Blossom 'Orchid Manor' HCC/AOS x Bow Bells 'Green Tag') -Patrick

    C. Earl 'Imperialis' FCC/AOS

I've been bugging David Off to sell me a piece of his 'Broomhills', I'm not sure where he got his. I understand that NEslipper's came from Plato, but I guess Plato's either died or was lost before David got his plants. I would get a piece of Art Chadwick Sr.'s piece, but it is so virused that...

    C. Tiffin Bells 'Orchidglade' AM/AOS

Congratulations! hope I have one some day. In my opinion, one of the only real improvements on Bow Bells in a F1 offspring. the other really good Bow Bells improvement to keep an eye out for is C.Lucille Small 'Marshall' FCC/AOS (Bow Bells x Dorthy Mackaill) -Patrick

    C. Earl 'Imperialis' FCC/AOS

Where did it come from? -Patrick

    C. Earl 'Imperialis' FCC/AOS

Deb and I saw a piece of C.Nancy Off 'Linwood' AM/AOS, and she told me that you were thinking of getting one, but decided that Bob Betts 'Tacoma' would be a better white. by the way, is your Bob Betts 'Tacoma' an original division? it has been cloned. I have 2 really nice old whites that don't...

Cattleya Jennifer Off ‘Joan’ 15 cm NS

I really like the true splash petals, not peloric flowers like prism palette, which has in effect, has three lips. -Patrick

    Cattleya trianae Cashen’s’ FCC/AOS

Well Terry, It gets it's splashes from C.trianaei 'Mary Fennell' HCC/AOS, a parent of 'Cashen's'. by the way 'Cashen's' is ('B' x 'Mary Fennell' HCC/AOS). C.trianaei 'Mary fennell' is a jungle plant collected by the american plant hunter Lee Arthur Fenell, of the Fenell Orchid Jungle...

    C. trianaei ‘Cashen’s’ Original Division

Tetraploid parents do NOT guarantee tetraploid offspring. It is very likely though. -Patrick

    C. trianaei ‘Cashen’s’ Original Division

Deb, if you wanted to, you could breed a pedigree crop of C. Louis Chanton! -Patrick

That was my post. ;) -Patrick

    C. percivaliana ‘Summit’ FCC/AOS Division if Original, Waldor LG.

Very impressive Deb, a little late though. percivaliana for me, usually blooms late November - December. and trianaei from late December to January. -Patrick
