    The large slipper box 2.0

Finished my large Paph shadow box with dried flowers from my collection, some bloomed myself and some from purchases. Hope to make more in the future.

    Plectrelminthus caudatus infection

This is an interesting case as I got two plants from the same vendor a few months back. One is fully green and throwing out two spikes and this one has been rapidly losing leaves in the past two weeks. I’m not sure what’s going on. I’ve unpotted it today to find mostly healthy roots and some new...

    Corybas pictus

Evenly moist but not overly wet, higher than average humidity. I like to dig out the tubers and keep them in wrung out sphagnum for their dormancy. Apparently this is probably better for species like ecarinatus with an allegedly harder dormancy. The leaf veins will turn pink in high light.

    Corybas pictus

Not a hard one to grow but definitely has a few requirements. Thankfully, it seems like the snails didn't touch the bin it was in and it now has a flower! Took a good 5 hours to configure my computer to properly do photo stacking but i think its worth it in the long run.

    Chemical Warfare for Bush Snails

I bit the bullet and got some slug-fest, I'll see how it turns out. I looked around and found hollowed-out cattleya seedling root tips, hopefully this stops them.

    Chemical Warfare for Bush Snails

I will check that one out, but slug-fest is the only sprayable liquid formulation to my knowledge which is why I'm considering it as my top choice. University of Hawaii did a test in 2002 and reported success with it but it seems like the only way to kill them is through direct contact.

    Chemical Warfare for Bush Snails

Found them munching on my miniatures and I’ve had enough. I’ve been religiously tracking them down nightly and I still can’t get rid of them from my humidity domes. Treatments I’m considering: - slug-fest metaldehyde, probably my most likely option but price is hefty and not sure about the...

    fat roots

I find it seems to come down mostly to genetics, my Lynleigh Koopowitz has much thicker roots than my multiflorals yet they dwarf it in leaf size.

    Paph Prince Edward of York

This was bought while the first flower was unfurling because it had a much more saturated red pouch than its sibling (though the images don't show it). I unpotted it seeing how the root growth point was way above the media and found only like two viable roots. Hoping for a better bloom on its...

    Normans Orchids / Orchids.com Order

Absolutely do not purchase from him unless you’re willing to gamble. I’ve been a customer of his since I was a kid and I have a long list of grievances especially with my most recent interaction with him. I for one am no longer purchasing from him.

Cycnoches cooperi ('SVO III' FCC/AOS x 'Memoria Pat Worthington' AM/AOS)

yup! from the 2021 release. This was the last plant of this batch that I managed to dredge up from the benches when they told me they no longer had the cross in stock. yeah I'm thinking probably going to need to use either more lava rock or just straight up put it in a clay pot, but even then...

Cycnoches cooperi ('SVO III' FCC/AOS x 'Memoria Pat Worthington' AM/AOS)

2nd blooming with wider flowers. Emergency photoshoot after I knocked this over once trying to get plants out for the Huntington show. It launched all of its pollen. It knocked itself over again and was on the floor when I got home. Half of the spike broke off. I guess this thing really doesn't...

    Angraecum magdalenae

Congrats! Definitely hit the jackpot, these have never been easy in my experience, my current seedlings have stayed the same size and it’s been a year since they’ve been deflasked

    Wanted Sanderianum flask

I feel like it heavily depends on seedling size and amount of leaf damage, the ones I got that came in near perfect condition and larger managed to survive with no casualties even if I broke off nearly all of their roots. Another flask I got with much smaller seedlings that came with more...

Newly Arrived Habenaria Medusa!! Care Tips?

When I grew this species, the easiest way for me to manage them with 100% dormancy survival in home conditions was to unpot the tubers after the growth fully died down, place them in a ziploc bag with wrung out sphagnum, and wait until they began sprouting. Mine did really well with a mix of...

    Columnea minor

    Ghost orchids!!!

When i remember, about 2x per week through misting. It seems to grow best when watered daily but allowed to dry out rapidly afterwards in my conditions.

    Ghost orchids!!!

Yep, it’s the last survivor out of the flask of about 10 or so. I rotted most of them out using conventional wisdom for growing them (high humidity, stagnant air, high moisture) and the remaining 5 thrived on just Spanish moss in air in a terrarium. I mounted the rest, gave a few to friends and...

    Ghost orchids!!!

I don’t think many have even bloomed true lindenii in the first place. Hopefully mine turns out to be that but just wanted to offer some cultural information that doesn’t seem to be as widely circulated since most people rot them out. I talked to Jason last week and he says they reach blooming...
