So after the first petal streak debacle of the first flower of the vietnamense from Third Odyssey post, the second bud on the other side of plant opened without a hitch so far.
Albeit a bit smaller at 9 cm (vs 10.4), it has better form (no pouch indentations) and better colors (no petal streaks...
I’ve had this vietnamense for about 4 years now (OI select) and it has tried blooming twice before. Each time it blasted and was such a trip for me.
This time it has passed the critical stage and about to open!! Third time lucky?!
Just peeking inside I see dark petals and a very round dark red...
A tiny vietnamense flower opened in a compot …. So adorably cute at only 6 cm …. on a 10 cm wide baby plant. The staminode has a little red, which is troubling. Must wait for try other sibs to see if present on theirs too.
Beside it is the larger multigrowth giant vietnamense whose stem is 2...
Some buds popped out this week. Exciting!
Two black leucochilums, two vietnamense (one of them a dark select from OI that has blasted 2 years in a row 🤞) and the scandalous niveum album (passed at judging last year with drama).
There will be a block party for April judging!
At least the...
Well the plant pulled through with a little petal boo boo and got an AM of 82 points from the AOS judging today. Yayyyy!
The judges noted the deep dark solid pouch. And also the full smooth pink on the petals.
Whew!
One of my multigrowth vietnamenses is opening with a huge dark flower! The pouch is like a dark red pomegranate. And the petals look like they may saturate with dark red raspberry throughout.
So exciting.
No streaks so far and ready for judging on Saturday yayyy! Just a tiny tooth on the...
A friend called the bud fuzzy and name stuck lol.
First bloom seedling. Bought from Piping Rock almost 4 years ago.
I was careful not to look at it because a bunch of buds blasted on other multigrowth vietnamenses when I paid too much attention to them.
