Below are four maudies paphs. that were purchased in bloom from Junes Orchid Estate. You will notice that the first two are of the same cross.

As you can tell the flower of the photo above is starting to go by.

These next two I really like.

The last one is the best one of all that I saw. It has a dorsal sepal of 3.5 inches.

These were all purchased for $15 each. Donna worked really hard doing these photos here on vacation under not the best of conditions. Anyone have any suggestions as how to get the shadows out of the photos. We had to use the painted walls (white) for a back drop. That plus we used a black pillow.

Lovely flowers, all.

You cannot avoid shadows if your light source is direct and the background is close to the flower. The best way to get rid of shadows is to put more distance between the flower and the background, and place the light source high enough to make the shadow drop out of the photo area.

Paphioboy, I went threw 4 trays of the maudies that were open. I pulled what I considered to be the best 6 and then before we checked out compared them all and took what I thought was the best four.

Some prices were cheap, but others like the leucochilum species that where in 3" pots sold for $75. I had asked about a roth. while visiting and they only offered me 6 and these where at $125 each. When I was checking out and already had my credit card out I asked if I could get one of those roths. for $100 and he agreed. I took home one with a 29 inch leaf span and two small starts.
