a few years ago I received or won an oncidium or psychopsis papilio at a southern tier orchid society show that had a spike. I was trying to be careful, but after a few months the spike which had been on for a while decided to turn brown. a few weeks ago I noticed that a new spike is coming up! it may be a while before there are any buds and flowering but I thought I'd post it anyway

it'll probably be growing for a while before it stops to put out buds; probably have to move the spike away from the fluorescent lights or it'll literally be toasted

They are stunning plants. I acquired one a few years ago and it has now 6 spikes with 2 more on the way. I have got the conditions right now but have had a few problems along the way. You have to be very careful with water and try not to get much over the new shoots of leaves and spikes as this has killed mine before they have got started. I water from the bottom and let them dry out a bit keeping the top part fairly dry. My new spikes are a similar size to yours and I hope to see flowers in the next 6 weeks or so, fingers crossed!

it really does take it dry, because I don't water it very much and it's in an aircone pot with semi-hydro pellets in it (no reservoir). only problem is now I have to move the pot because the spike is going to grow right up into the lights; will be tricky to keep high light on the plant but keep the spike from burning

Neat!!! I have a kahili, which I bought recently...!! How many pseudobulbs do they need to bloom?? And what conditions to grow and flower well?
