Hi all,

I recently saw a Nepenthes at Home Depot and couldn't resist buying it. My plan is to take it to work where I have a nice bright window, but I'd like to report it first. Could someone please recommend a growing medium? The internet is telling me half sand, half peat moss - which is what I grow my Cape Sundew in. Will this work for the Nepenthes as well?

Unfortunately it didn't come with any id more descriptive that Nepenthes. I am working under the assumption that it's a random hybrid.

Here's a photo, the pitchers are about 10" long:

Thanks!

I have bought Miranda from Lowes years ago.
I paid $35 for it. How much for yours?

I did not do well with it. It was perfect when I bought it.

This is in fact Nepenthes Miranda, a good basic medium is 1:1 sphagnum: cypress mulch, just make sure the cypress mulch doesn't have any added chemicals, you can find cypress mulch in pet stores for smaller bags and at places like home depot for larger bags, Forest Floor and No Float are the two brands we have here

Miranda is a hot grower. I'm not sure how cold-tolerant it is in the US. Neps can be planted in full sphagnum. They like to be wet but not waterlogged/soggy, unlike Sarracenias. I believe some Nep growers use terrestrial orchid mix without the fertilizer.

Miranda is and intermediate Nepenthes meaning it will grow in highland or lowland conditions, the best place for it? Put it in a window at room temperature and it'll grow well (I'd suggest an east facing window) though under 40° it'll start to suffer. If also suggest misting the leaves at night to help it pitcher unless your house is humid enough
