May I ask if the green moss is added on top of spaghnum moss and is it for looks or does it help hold moisture?

Green moss is not for looks, I acquired this plant not too long ago and the grower had to water very frequently causing the moss to grow. I actually slowly over time remove the moss and most of the spag because I have much better ambient humidity and l like the roots to dry quickly and get lots of air.
As is said frequently here one has to adapt to one’s particular environment.
