I purchased this plant as a small seedling several years ago from HP Norton. It is a very large flower with a spread of 16 cm. It has been open for about a week and still remains fairly flat. The plant is a strong grower and it will be interesting to see what it does in the future. I am thinking this is likely a 2n and will be crossing it with a 2n besseae.

:clap: Nice! be interesting in seeing the next blooming.
Why besseae rather than back to kovachii?

It seems to me that this flower already has the size that kovachii provides. I think what it really needs is some color. I have a couple of bright orange besseae and that cross should give me fairly flat, Fritz Schomburg like flowers.

= Phrag Perusian Royalty, named after a region in Italy. Yay besseae hybrids! I'm surprised it came out so light since Bel Royal is so dark. And, yes they are strong growers or at least hardy as I haven't killed mine off..yet.

So, is there a Bel Royal phrag and a paph? Thanks

Correct! Just like there is a Paph. Nicholle Tower and a Phrag. Nicholle Tower. The Eric Young Foundation tends to use the same name for multiple genera...

Phrag besseae almost always improves the form of its offspring. It may bring rounder petals, too.

Nice! Your plant's flowers have good shape.

Overall, I admit, I'm not terribly impressed with a lot of the kovachii hybrids. My biggest disappointment is the color. So many of them have very light, pale pink hues. Frankly, that's just not my thing. But, also, so many of them suffer from bad petal shapes once they've been open for a few days. So, if your plant holds the petal shape in this photo, I say you've got a winner, even if the color isn't really to my taste.
